I will not profess to being a coach or tactician but just wondering whether it would be effective to set up a triangle and two against the Rockets.

Theoretically on the baseline of the triangle near the basket you have McGee (or Dwight) and AD. At the top you have Lebron. Then let Green defend Harden and Bradley defend Westbrook.

Leborn's role is to find shooters from the top of the key to the elbows.

McGee and AD have to communicate on the baseline so that either one closes the corner whenever the ball is swung that direction, while the other protects the paint.

If a pick is set for Westbrook, whoever is defending Westbrook must go under the screen.

If a pick is set for Harden at the top, Lebron must show and either switch or force Harden to give it up to the screener, assuming the screener is not Westbrook.

If Westbrook sets the screen for Harden or vice versa, then switch.

Just thinking out loud but curious to hear other opinions.

If this thread picks up, perhaps we can consider a similar discussion for the Clippers (or just merge with the ongoing Clippers thread). To me, the Clippers and the Rockets to a lesser extent will be our only threats to come out of the west barring significant injuries.

Westbrook has been doing a great job these days.
I think it's partly due to him being healthy. Which leads him to be able to attack the basket more often. Which also allows him to stop taking as many 3s. Over the last 16 or so games, he's only averaged 1.8 3s a game. And only 3.9 3s/game for the season. The lowest average since 2012-13 season.

I think what we have to do is wall off Russell and make him take long 2s or 3s. And DO NOT FOUL Harden. Easier said than done. But we should be able to live with Harden getting his points from the field. So my 2 points of defense: don't foul, and limit Westbrook getting to the cup.

The question is not how the Lakers defend the Rockets - it's how the Rockets defend the Lakers. And how they plan on getting rebounds...

Other than that, let Harden have a couple of 3s, this makes him not move the ball. Russel will be angry faster than Harden can flop. MDA will blame the players and throw them under the bus and the Rockets are beat...

Protect the paint
Protect the 3 point line
Dominate the interior with scoring and rebounding
Force them to adapt
Wait for harden and Dantoni to choke

double Harden, make Westbrook take 3s or long 2s.
play Center, don't over rotate, giving up a 3 to Tucker or House of Covington if needed.

Agreed. An engaged defensive LeBron like he has been most of the year on Harden (though I’m not sure that will be the game plan) and Bradley/Caruso on Westbrook should be able to slow those guys down as much as is possible. Then we got 3 excellent rim protectors.

Let’s just hope they don’t get white hot from 3 a la Dallas in 2011. Not much you can do if that happens. As long as they don’t though, I don’t see them as much of a threat in a 7 game series. AD should be the focal point on offense vs Houston. Lakers in 5.

Let’s get past a possible NO 1st round matchup first. They’re starting to remind me of the upstart OKC team that would be in the Finals in short order.

The better question is how do we defend the Bucks? (see Miami's last game)

Better question is, how we attack that zone defense. We have to score more than them, that's it.

If we can’t make open 3s, we can’t beat Zone
Our championship hope relies on our 3 point shooting, mainly open 3s. Every time outside of the bucks will zone us

We've been trying that for well over a decade with minimal success.

That line up will be good most games. Good offense defense balance. You throw in Rondo and or Kuzma and everything goes to hell. Small ball is fine when the match ups work and when you use guys who will get after it defensively

ROckets are a season team. come playoffs and in 7 games shooting 3s all game will hurt them. No one is scared of WB in the playoffs. THeyre easier to defend than they look. Our team is way to long and good defensively to even worry about them. THey wont hit 20-25 3s a night in the playoffs. They might have a game or 2 when theyre hot but overall theyre not good enough or long enough to beat us. only way they have a chance is if they somehow out rebound us and HArden avg 40, WB avg 30 and Gordon gives 16-20. We should be able to score in the paint and snag alot of offensive boards. Clippers and Bucks are the only teams id be scred of

True Dat!

What I'm most interested in is a Rockets-Clippers series: a pity that there's only "one" rock!
