AD is shooting 43% from 3 in 2020. If he brings these percentages to the playoffs as the 5, we are going to very hard to stop. Bron in the Post with 4 shooters is scary.
Only Freak and Kawhine got a chance to swipe the DPOY from AD, we should know he is truly deserving in the community my days as they all square off. _________________ MAMBA OUT
Outside 24 yr old Greek freak, how many player would you trade AD for one to one?
Kawhi, Curry and Harden. But that's just about it. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts!
AD has attempted to defend 244 shot attempts while Giannis has attempted to defend 171. That’s pretty close in volume especially when you consider how many more total minutes AD has been on the floor compared to Giannis (in lesser games played no less)? Wanna venture a guess how close the minutes differential is?
1700 minutes for Giannis
1788 for AD
So adjusting for minutes, AD still has defended 35% more shots, that’s very significant. Defensive Win share stats aren’t worth bringing up as that is an apples/oranges metric. Challenging more shots is one thing that leads to fewer rebounding opportunities, thus lowering win shares.
Win shares still shouldn’t deter from DPoY consideration and Giannis leads the league by a country mile in that regard.
As you can see for every 5ft from the rim to the perimeter, the attempts (volume) that AD has in the immediate painted area, Giannis makes up for on the perimeter. From 15-19ft they are similar with Giannis having more volume. And AD challenges better from 24 ft out, but still at the rim even with some 250 less attempts, Giannis defense it at a ridiculous rate of allowing sub 50%.
I’m sorry but agree to disagree again, AD is a top DPoY candidate, but at the moment, it’s Giannis’s to lose.
'But he's like "just throw it up" and I'm like "but you're in year seventeen you don't have it" '
That was great. Glad to hear that LBJ is encouraging AD to take care of his body young, get extra time in the tub, sauna, etc. Smart. And AD saw some pretty instant results, it sounds like.
Also great: Nash: "I wish I had my own AD" hahahaha, I bet you did, buddy.

They’re 30plus, I’d personally take 26 yr old AD. Luka, Zion and Tatum?
Age doesn't factor here. You replace AD with any of those players and we win two straight championships. I don't really care what happens after that.
As for those last 3 - No, No and No. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts!

You guys think it’s a lock that AD wins DPOTY?

Does Kawhi still play lockdown defense during the regular season?
He locked up Morant and Booker in the last week.
He was getting routinely wrecked a lot of the regular season I watched but he has no doubt stepped it up Post All Star break. No way he should be even mentioned in the DPOY conversation though considering he not only missed so many games but also was "load managing" in much of the games he played on the defensive end.
It's a two man race just like the MVP imo. AD and Giannis for DPOY and it's between Lebron and Giannis for MVP.
I think some voters already have there mind made up while others will continue flip flopping the next few weeks. Obviously for Lebron and AD both the next stretch of games will be a huge positive or negative depending how things go. Lebron has clearly been making up ground in the MVP race the last month.

Those shots are the total number of shots that occur while the two players are on the floor. Anthony Davis does not defend 60+ shot attempts per game, and neither does Giannis.

No kidding haha. You mentioned total minutes, so I provided total shots defended. And seeing how defending shots leads to defensive win shares...well Giannis is the league leader (among 30mpg players) there and it’s not even close.
AD is a legit DPoY candidate, but Laker bias aside, Giannis is putting up ridiculous defensive metrics.

Defending shots is not measured directly by DWS.
Grabbing rebounds, getting steals, and blocking shots are the only ways to increase defensive win shares. Challenging a shot often results in a defender being out of position for a rebound. Finally Giannis has a built in advantage in all of his win shares, he has 17% more wins.

This was your original retort to me bringing up DWS. Notice how you yourself say “challenging more shots is one thing that leads to fewer rebounds thus lowering win shares,” but the volume of attempts AD has more at attempted blocks closer to the rim, Giannis makes up in defending more shots on the perimeter. So your argument is flawed.
Not to mention minutes on the court is what impacts defensive win shares and as we see AD has more total minutes played (in fewer games) than Giannis does.
Where MP=Minutes Played, TMP=Team Minutes Played, TDP=Team Defensive Possession, LPPP=League Points Per Possession, DRtg=Defensive Rating, LPPG=League Points Per Game, TP=Team Pace, LP=League Pace
Defending shots is directly reflected by defensive win shares...the (bleep) you talking about?
I don’t know why you pushing back so much on this. It’s only my opinion that Giannis is DPoY over AD and the advanced metrics back it up. Still AD is definitely our own team’s DMVP and obviously I want him to win DPoY, but Giannis is balling right now, so AD’s gotta shift gears and go take it from dude.
