Of the last six MVPs, only last year would I select option 2. So yea, option 1 is usually safe and solid. _________________ LeGoat! LeMazing! LeGend! |

unfortunately the mass media has already cemented in Giannis' MVP narrative
I think its going to take more than having a better record than the Bucks to convince the voters to eat a plate of crow and reverse their opinion _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Maybe you're confusing GA with Ben Simmons...
GA makes 1.5 threes a game!
In fact, I wouldn't call Lebron a much better shooter. Better yes... much better... ehhh.
Shoots it at a better clip than our "shooter" Kyle Kuzma. |

My AIM username back in the day was KobeIsMVP. Because he was playing all world basketball while going through all kinds of things that never shook him.
If I were creating one today, it would be LAbronIsMVP. Cause that's what he is this season. He's played through insane circumstances and is currently the best player in the league. Giannis will have tons of opportunity on route to a bright future NBA career.
Side question, anyone got any good download recommendations for Napster? My Winamp playlist is getting played out. _________________ I miss you Kobe. I miss you Gigi. |

I always wanted it to mean the best player on the planet. The question would be, can a true MVP of the league be on a team that's say .500? I'm on the side that says yes. And before you slam me, throughout the years, how often have we seen this scenario, where the best player in the league was on a .500 team? A handful? I would consider this an exception that shouldn't discount a player.
To help define the MVP, here's what the MVP does NOT necessarily mean:
* Has the best record in the league
* The team is horrible when you sit
* Be a quality human being
The top 2 aspects can have a lot to do with the team makeup, the FO's ability, injuries, etc. I won't disqualify a player for his team's lacking. But note, it'll be more difficult to identify a player's greatness, when his teammates aren't able to make buckets.
The last item, is more about valuing what they do on the court versus what they do off. Obviously, we'd want the MVP to be a good dude. But lets make sure the focus is on court abilities.
Here are a couple of nuances that I value:
* Plays both sides of the ball. Have we seen an MVP where they only played defense? Maybe Russell? I don't recall any in the modern era. Have we seen an MVP where they play a lot of offense and don't play much defense? Perhaps. The only way I would excuse poor defense is if their offense was out of this world.
* Be multifaceted. Don't be just a scorer. Don't be just a passer. Don't be just a rebounder. And so on. Being elite in more areas is a plus.
* Play a lot of games. I wont set an exact threshold as each year, each use case might be differe. But play a high percentage of the available games.
* Play a lot of minutes. Try to be 30+ MPG. I know in this era, it's about limiting minutes to limit injuries. But if you're not imposing your will throughout most of the game, it's a negative for me.
* Have skill. Display basketball skills. It's not just about being the biggest or strongest or even the fastest. That'll definitely help, but display skills along with it.
* Have high bball IQ. Ability to show one's brilliance on the court is a plus.
With that in mind, I would look at the numbers. Look at the dominance. Look at the competition.
I would hope voters would look at video of complete games, instead of just box scores and advanced analytics. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!! |
