The legendary Kenny Rogers has passed away at the age of 81. The AP report linked here says he died of "natural causes" while in hospice care. He had bladder cancer in 2018, and Radar Online reported that he was dying in May of last year. Who knows if that is the reason, but regardless, he was certainly a legend. At one point, he was the most popular singer in America, and of course he also acted, most notably as "The Gambler." RIP.

As a child my Mom listened to all his music and I could sing it all
Along with Dr Hook/Eddie Rabbit/Loretta Lynn/Dolly/Waylon and willie and the boys
Had to learn Coward of the County to try to calm my own anger
Not Kenny but I learned a Conway Twitty song to sing to my Mom when I was about 9-10 "Happy Birthday Darling" lol
I used to sing few lines to Lucille often just for fun...
and Reuben James.. .. I loved you then and I love you now
Quote:
Reuben James, for you still walk the furrowed field of my mind
Faded shirt, the weathered brow
The calloused hands upon the plow
I loved you then and I love you now, Reuben James
Flora Grey
The gossip of Madison County died with child
And although your skin was black
You were the one that didn't turn your back
On the hungry white child with no name, Reuben James
Reuben James
With your mind on my soul and a Bible in your right hand
You said "turn the other cheek
A-there's a better world a-waiting for the meek"
In my mind these words remain from Reuben James
Pure Legend of Country Music
Thank you for entertaining us through the years
You gotta know when to hold em.
Know when to fold em.
Know when to walk away.
And know when to run.
Some of mankinds best advice....

My parents took me to a Kenny Rogers concert at the Universal Ampitheater when I was a kid. His songs made the soundtrack for many childhood vacation trips. I don’t know how anyone can watch his duet with Dolly Parton and not smile:
Much like Jodeke, Chick Hearn, Bob Barker, Ricardo Montalban, Marvin Gaye, Billy Dee Williams, etc, Kenny Rogers was one debonair, smooth mofo, especially with the ladies.

It was the only time Dolly didn’t sound like shrill warble Barbie _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel
