Globetrotters legend Fred 'Curly' Neal dies at 77

Damn. This one hurts. When I was a kid and the Trotters were doing their TV show in Studio City, they would practice in the gym of the high school campus I lived on because my Dad was the Headmaster. They were were great about letting us kids in the neighborhood watch them. I'll never forget the day that Curly taught me how to spin a ball on my finger and the pretend to offer the ball and then bounce it off your inner elbow trick.

I remember him from the Scooby Doo cartoons.

Shame he won't get a proper sendoff though

He in a lot of way along with Meadowlark Lemon WAS the Globetrotters, at least for me.

The guy always seemed to have a smile on his face and loved what he did. Youngsters in this generation probably don't realize how big the Globetrotters were in the 60's and 70's, they were a big deal then.

Maybe now that Curly has passed the hapless Washington Generals can finally beat them....

RIP Curly.
