Is it belittling to Stockton and The Admiral to say that Jordan overshadowed their HOF induction? Or is it reality...?

No one is belittling anyone here.

Maybe read the posts in this thread. KG needed other stars to win (as did Kobe) and TD was boring. I didn’t follow KG that closely but in their primes Kobe and TD were comparable.

Ah. So I have to answer for other posters comments now? You responded to my posts of all the posts, which heavily implies that you felt that my comment was the one that was belittling Duncan.

Actually I didn’t respond to any post, I just made a comment.

Hall of Fame could push back induction of Kobe, Duncan, Garnett due to coronavirus

It’s the deepest and (arguably) greatest Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class in its history: Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett lead it.

Enshrinement is scheduled for Aug. 29, but the Hall of Fame in Massachusets is looking at potentially pushing back that date if large gatherings are not yet allowed, reports Gary Washburn at the Boston Globe. They are considering pushing the date back to mid-October or potentially into next spring if necessary.

Hall of Fame CEO John Doleva emphasized they are not just going to roll this class into the 2021 class (which has yet to be elected).

“I do want to make it very clear we will have a separate event for the class of 2020 because of the notoriety of that class and, frankly, every class deserves its own recognition,” Doleva said. “There is a potential next calendar year that we could have two enshrinements.”

It’s possible that the enshrinement can take place Aug. 29, but like every big event planned for the fall nobody knows exactly what the situation will be. So, the Hall of Fame is coming up with a backup plan, just in case. As they should.

Basketball Hall of Fame delays enshrining Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett

The Basketball Hall of Fame originally planned to induct Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett in August.

But coronavirus interfered.

Jackie MacMullan of ESPN:

Jerry Colangelo, the chairman of the board of the governors for the Hall, told ESPN Wednesday that enshrinement ceremonies for the Class of 2020, one of the most star-studded lineups ever which includes Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and the late Kobe Bryant, will be moved to spring of 2021.

Colangelo stressed there will be separate ceremonies for the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021, even though both events will now be held in the calendar year 2021. “We won’t be combining them,” he said. “The Class of 2020 is a very special class and deserves its own celebration.”

I’m so glad each class will be honored separately. Bryant, Duncan, Garnett and the rest of this class – Tamika Catchings, Rudy Tomjanovich, Kim Mulkey, Barbara Stevens, Eddie Sutton and Patrick Baumann – deserve their own night.

So does Paul Pierce and whoever gets selected in the next class.

Life can end at any moment. Bryant’s death was a tragic reminder of that. But there’s no specific urgency here. The Hall of Fame should wait until it’s safe to hold a proper celebration of this class… then the next one.

Lakers News: Vanessa Bryant Expressed Desire For Family To Be Involved With Kobe Bryant Hall Of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant is set to be enshrined at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame alongside one of the most star-studded classes in NBA history.

Although the league has managed to outline a timeline for its return to the court by the end of July, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has required the Hall of Fame to push back the induction ceremony from the originally scheduled Aug. 29 date.

Of course, the death of Bryant will also be taken into consideration for the enshrinement ceremony that will also feature Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Tamika Catchings. It seems the committee has already acknowledged the prospect of taking unprecedented action since this is the only time a first-ballot inductee has passed away before their induction.

According top Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, CEO John Doleva said who speaks on Bryant’s behalf will be someone — or people — close to thim:

“People are going to want to hear about Kobe personally, not just a vignette,” Doleva said. “Whether that’s his wife or his teammates or a combination thereof.”

Doleva added that Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, expressed her desire for the family to be involved:

Doleva said he has received indication that Bryant’s family wants to participate in the ceremony.

“I had the opportunity to speak very briefly with Mrs. Bryant and she was very appreciative and very emotional,” Doleva said. “She has certainly indicated to be very involved, she and her family and others, in his enshrinement ceremony when it happens.”

Bryant’s family played an integral role in the celebration ceremony that was held for him and Gianna at Staples Center a month after the tragic accident. They will now get the chance to honor Bryant’s legacy on the basketball court in what would have been one o the greatest accomplishments of his lifetime up to that point.

Although the Hall of Fame had initial hopes of simply postponing the enshrinement ceremony to the fall, a decision was made to delay it until some point in 2021.

Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett Hall of Fame induction pushed back to May

ASSOCIATED PRESS — Kobe Bryant and the rest of this year’s Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class won’t be inducted in 2020 – or at the birthplace of basketball.

The Hall announced Friday that the enshrinement ceremony will be held May 13-15, 2021, and the entire festivities will be moved to Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.

This year was to be a highlight for the Hall of Fame, located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Bryant, killed in January in a helicopter crash, headlined a decorated class featuring Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett that would have been enshrined in the recently renovated museum.

But the coronavirus pandemic scuttled those plans and hit the Hall so hard that it eliminated several full-time positions and cut senior management pay in the 25-40% range.

“These are people who have been a big part of the Hall’s success in recent years; it hurts deeply,” said John Doleva, President and CEO of the Hall of Fame, said in a statement. “The decision to reschedule Enshrinement into May of next year, along with diminished museum guest visitation and a very uncertain future regarding our multiple collegiate and high school basketball events this fall, has forced us to make these very difficult decisions. Our goal now is to conserve resources so that we may stabilize in 2021 and return to our growth trajectory in 2022 and beyond.”

“For this single event, and only because of the pandemic, we will relocate the entire event one time to Mohegan Sun which has been a long-time marketing partner of the Hall. Mohegan Sun has shown they can effectively operate a ‘near-bubble’ for our event which provides a more secure environment for our guests,” Doleva explained. “In making this announcement today, our goal is to provide this date and location change with ample notice for our network broadcast partners, nationally and internationally traveling guests and the many basketball constituents the Hall serves.”

Mohegan Sun is a long-time partner of the Hall. Doleva says it can operate a “near-bubble” to provide a secure environment for guests.

Interesting to have players that earned their HOF award from their play from other teams.
