Who are some of your favorite "forgotten" Lakers? These could be guys who were only briefly with the team, or guys you felt were underrated. It could be guys who should have gotten more playing time or who should have gotten a new contract.

Or, it could simply be players who weren't very good but who you loved anyway. Mine:

- Andrew Goudelock (sharpshooter; felt he should have gotten another shot)
- Earl Clark (gave the team a spark in 2013)
- Ramon Sessions (would have liked to see him more but the acquisition of Steve Nash forced him out)
- Jumaine Jones (scrappy 3&D player)
- Mitch Richmond (was on his last legs but handled a diminished role with dignity. Probably could have gotten a few more minutes but Phil rarely played him)
- Brian Cook (not a good player but occasionally got hot from the outside)

J.R. Reid - made me genuinely miss the Dennis Rodman Circus in ‘99 (before we waived him). That’s how bad he was when he played for us

Derek Harper - Getting rid of Van Exel really left us desperate a point guard, more desperate than our arrogance would admit to at that time. Even though he was 86 years old by then, he had some moments in the regular season that year, but he was burnt out by the playoffs.

Re: Kareem Rush. I still think we developed him wrong. Not that it would’ve made a difference in the grand scheme of things, but to turn him into a 1 was a mistake. Back then, it seemed like we tried to turn every SG/SF into a 1. If we wanted someone to handle the ball more, we could’ve just drafted Tayshaun Prince or (in hindsight) John Salmons. We were rumored to be interested in Prince, Qyntel Woods, Chris Jefferies, John Salmons, among others. But we literally took the worse ball handler out of that group and tried to turn him into a big PG Terrible drafting in the early 2000’s

Re: Jordan Hill - He was actually on a good trajectory as a player. He would give you good energy and statistically was one of the better offensive rebounders per minute. And then someone must’ve told him that he was prime Karl Malone, and he suddenly thought he was an offensive player, and turned into a chucking machine from midrange

Re: Earl Clark - He definitely had the talent to amount to something more than what eventually became of him

Jim Jackson - a guy who always had brought his game when playing the Lakers. He becomes a Laker and... well.. has a forgettable run with us

I enjoyed Penberthy and Profit as well. I wish Profit hadn't gotten injured. He was turning into a solid backup.

Changing the subject: I always thought Josh McRoberts would be better and have a bigger role in 2012. Him and Troy Murphy brought almost nothing to the team.

I know Chucky Atkins wasn't great, but I always got a kick out of him. He could get hot from behind the arc.

Someone else mentioned Laron Profit but Xavier Henry had a similarly short but promising Laker career, and much like Profit it was derailed by a career ending injury.

Larry Nance - Under-appreciated young player & good guy.

Mario Bennett - Crazy athleticism. Could never get minutes playing behind Shaq, Elden, Horry & Blount.

Marshon Brooks - Kid really tried to model his game after Kobe's.

Wesley Johnson - Really thought Wes had the potential to be a solid 3 & D guy.

Why couldn’t Brooks succeed in the NBA despite being someone who averaged 12.6 ppg as a rookie?

Mike Smrek! LOL! You are from my time. They called Hakeem the Nigerian Nightmare. I used to call Mark MacNamara the White Night-NaMara!

Wes Matthews ... Xavier McDaniel choke.
Terry Teagle ... Magic took a paycut.
Jay Vincent ... Magic's Michigan buddy.
David Rivers ... Threw in the fire in the 89 Finals due to no Magic.
Sam Jacobson ... Jewish Jordan
Greg Foster ... If you can't beat'em, join'em!
Tierre Brown ... Greatest defense of all time
Deandre Kane ... Diamond in the rough

Guys who seemed good on the Lakers who went on to have mediocre careers on other teams: Jordan Farmar, Ronny Turiaf, Sasha Vujacic, Shannon Brown.

Cedric Ceballos. He got us through a rough period with the Lakers. I'll never forget his 50 point game.
