First of all, Porter Jr. averaged 25+ ppg prior to that game, so he's no slouch.
I'm watching the game this morning and it's interesting how you take due credit from Kuzma, and assign undue blame for giving up 1 bucket.
Porter Jr. made all of his 6 shots against:
1) LeBron (3 pt)
2) Davis (jump shot)
3) Kuzma (backdoor cut)
4) LeBron (fast break jumper)
5) Danny Green (left wing jump shot)
6) Danny Green (fast break layup)
2 Times his D pressured Porter into turnovers:
1) dribbling off his foot
2) dribble cut off and forced to go out of bounds
Those things matter too. It's said that we overrate our players, but it's clear that there are times people withhold credit that's due. |
You are more of a Lakers fan than I’ll ever be, and I’m on this site everyday. Props to you for doing the homework! _________________ “You have to dance beautifully in the box that you are comfortable dancing in.” - Kobe Bryant |

We probably win this game if Vogel just leaves Kuzma in midway through the 4th instead of subbing him for Green. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Good minutes from Kuz.
He played 30. But I wouldn't mind him getting more of Danny Greens minutes. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!! |

the 5 people I was watching the game with all seen that too along with most people here so not sure how Vogel didn't honestly. There's no reason that Kuz shouldn't be right around Lebron and AD in minutes especially with his play in not only this game but the entire bubble. |

No one really shot well unfortunately.
But his lineup was a net positive.
Unlike green and kcp. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!! |

Why is this guy coming off the bench? We need a 6”8-6”9 guy who can guard and hit corner 3s...?
Kuzma
LeBron
Davis
Should be in the starting line up. |

Those 3 should share the floor for at least 35 minutes.
You can mix and match Caruso/Green/KCP/Waiters/Rondo/Morris based on who is performing. |

I don't believe that Kuzma was out of control at all. His stat line got negatively affected by 2 heaves. One at the end of the first half and one at the end of the game. Outside of that he missed a few chippies and could've had 20 easily last night. |

Kuz & Waiters need to start over McGee and KCP. This is the playoffs no time for (bleep) around |

Yeah. The silliest stat of last night, among all the zaniness from our end, is that Portland was something like +13 playing the uber big lineup with Whiteside and Nurk. That is simply unacceptable. We need to punish them during those stretches, and not play into their hands by attacking the basket in the half court offense when Whiteside is waiting right there for you.
If the role players aren't hitting threes, why not attack the closeout with a couple of dribbles and pull up from mid range, get some rhythm going? Portland is literally conceding everything from 10-15 feet out, and barely gives any defensive effort there. Speaking of, where's Lebron's mid range game disappeared to? |

Good point on LBJ's mid range allergy. If he doesn't take what the defense gives him, other guys will. We have seen too many Green drives, AD 3's rather than drives, KCP having to think and Caruso baited to shoot early.
Going with the big 3 theme, the guard needs to push to get LBJ the ball quicker to get into the set quicker. The role players shouldn't have to try and do too much, if things fall apart we have 3 guys that can iso under 5 seconds. When we stagger the 3 we miss this.
I don't think Vogel benches Javale, but I think Kuz for KCP will happen with the way he used Morris more vs the big lineup. Something like:
James 40/KCP 8
Caruso 28/Green 10/KCP 10
Kuzma 34/Green 14
Davis 26/Morris 22
McGee 14/Howard 20/Davis 14
"going small" is deceptive as KCP played inconsistent and Green trusts his length to much and closes out too late.

Kuz has to play 33-34mpg. At least he will take an open 3, or take it hard to the rim. Plus, his defense is good now.
If KCP, Green, etc. aren't on, put Kuz instead. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Yup! And play waiters more too. At least he can score while KCP does nothing at all |

And they all need to be put on notice that it's okay to get in just a bit closer and take a mid-range jumper from time to time. Play within your means. So many wasted possessions where they attack a closeout and try to take it all the way to the basket, with hijinx soon to follow (looking at you, KCP, Caruso, DG). Taking it hard to the rim is fine for LBJ and maybe Kuz, but these other guys have no business challenging Whiteside or Nurk. |

Starting or off the bench, no reason why Kuzma shouldn't play 32+ minutes |

If you start Kuzma how does that look defensively? With Lebron at PG and Kuz at 3/4, who guards Lillard? It pretty much has to be KCP or Caruso. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

You have to convince AD to stop being a ***** and start at center.
KCP
Caruso
Lebron
Kuz
Davis |

That’s always been my biggest concern for Kuz. Even at his best, he’s still somewhat redundant Because he plays the same position as our two best players. Now obviously trying him at the 2 is a possibility, but I don’t think he has the foot speed or lateral quirks to consistently guard that position, especially when we have glaring needs at other positions.
But I will say, he’s been better... good to see. |

Wouldn't we be starting him in place of Mcgee? He can guard Melo. Our best two-way lineup in this series may be AD/Kuz/Bron/KCP/Caruso. |

AD can’t handle Nurk on the Block I don’t think. But I can see the appeal. If it gets out of hand with current lineups,.. best bet is to play your best guys. Waiters and Kuz should be getting the burn. |
