Still in awe of AD's post-season with us.

That finals run he had was probably the best defensive series I've seen from a Laker.

Kobe's defense in game 7 vs Celtics was EPIC.

AD is an incredible player who now has comfort on the biggest stage and winning. He’s our new Kobe, guy to build around. Have to be very careful how they do that. He’s only 27. Within the next 3 years they need to secure his next running mate

That was a defensive slugfest but I meant individually from one guy in an entire series. We haven't had a defensive anchor this good since maybe Kareem but definitely not since Wilt.

LA Times:

Quote:
Most NBA executives believe Anthony Davis’ best course is to opt out and sign a two-year deal with a player option for the second season.

If he did that, Davis would become a free agent the same time as LeBron James following the 2021-22 season.

When that might happen is unknown since the NBA and players’ union has to negotiate when the new 2020-21 season will begin, including the free-agency period.

Sadly it is the most logical decision for him. It leaves us in a weak position in 2 years as we will probably have no guaranteed players unless Kuzma stays. But well, that assures that the first draft pick that we are going to give NO will be a low pick.

Actually, the guy who was the centerpiece of the Kareem trade, Elmore Smith, was a force and anchor....still holds the record for block shots in a game, 17....11 in one half!

Just the way it is. The superstars control the game and it keeps the organizations on their toes.

The Lakers will have to prove to AD that they intend to keep on winning post-Lebron and we know the Lakers are all about the championship so I’m pretty confident.

If he wants to go to Chicago in 2 years then nothing we can do about it. He would have had it in his head to have a homecoming.

Yup. That's just reality. Gotta just enjoy this upcoming season and just see what comes after.

Yeah, then he'll return at some opportune (for him) point, spout his usual intellectually bankrupt nonsense, get called out, mods will react to those who call him out, and then just let him continue with his trolling and dishonesty. Play it again. Play it again. Play it again....

Bron should still be a Top 10 player in 2022 provided he stays injury free. AD could be Top 2 by then. I think he will renew again in 2022 for 35% cap space salary. Looking at 2022 free agents, don't see anyone who could team up with AD in Chicago. Harden will be 35 and even more gassed in playoffs.

I don’t see any problem with this at all! It’s like anywhere else in employment you treat your employees right and they will stay and if not they will leave

Was just scrolling this thread today and by "accident" ran into these posts from last year.

We don’t have a prime Kobe unfortunately

No we have PRIME AD, Ventura. PRIME AD and MVP level Bron.

Good for the Lakers acquiring AD without having to give up Kuzma. They gave up a lot but Pels deserved Kuzma more than Josh Hart.

No, Pelicans are fine with Hart

The Pelicans have Zo, Ingram, Zion, and the 4th Pick, as well as 2 additional 1sts from the Lakers.

They are in a far better situation than the Lakers currently.

The Lakers only hope is to make enough of a splash next season that Davis decides to stay. But if betting your entire future on Anthony Davis an an aging LeBron isn't enough, don't count on Davis sticking around in another New Orleans type situation.

If they lose Davis in the off-season, the FO will hopefully and thankfully be fired.

Lakers are not winning a ring

We'll see what betting against themselves gets them. They are betting on Kuzma to be the star of the young roster despite the evidence of him benefiting from Lonzo.

Kuzma will have so many more open shots now with AD and LBJ. Think about how easy it was for Mirotcic and Randle around AD. Now Kuzma has LBJ AND AD to help him get open shots. No one is going to be concerned about Kuzma.

He is a good cutter, runner. His shot is the main concern. Vogel needs to sit him down and make him understand the importance of hitting open shots. Practice. Practice. Practice more. Then defense. Work on his defensive IQ. He needs to watch tape.

Kuzma has the talent to play a Lamar Odom type of role. Not same exactly. But similar. AD the Pau role. LBJ the Kobe role. We need to get some tough 3nD shooters, and make sure AD and LBJ are healthy come playoffs. Then I take us against anyone.

LETS GO Baby

Ok this guy was a little wrong about Kuzma, lol, but at least I was on about how deadly LBJ, AD some 3nD role players would be.

Oh man going back into this thread June 2019. Was such a great read. You could really tell the folks who knew the impact an all time bigman talent like AD could have with a player like Bron.

Super super fun re-living that time.

Still so appreciative of AD to go all out on the defensive end like he did this season. He really gave 100 percent almost every single game on that end. He was a monster that set the tone on D all season long. Even held Bron accountable.

It's also funny to go back and read posts that disliked this trade and said crazy (bleep) like Paul George or keeping our young players was a better choice.
