ESPN's DRPM ranked Matthews as the #2 defensive sg in 2019-20. Link. Overall, he was ranked as the #11 sg (adding ORMP and DRPM together). Personally, I believe that this is a great pickup.

Yeah, for the price it's a great pickup. Gives us that grizzled hungry veteran 3&d guy to replace Danny Green. Hopefully we still bring KCP back and if that's the case with Rondo going somewhere else I still believe our guard rotation will be anywhere from a decent amount better to WAY better depending how all these pieces end up coming together and playing along side each other but Rob is grabbing some nice logical pieces that look to actually mesh.
Some links for intel regarding Wes Matthews. The intent here is to inform. Like many of you I had limited viewing of Wes. Folks like to toss things out like "injured", "achilles", etc. Obviously could be concerning, but that injury was in 2015, and focusing just on this past season, this is what we see:
1. Discussing Wes positive impact on Bucks D, including solid play vs Kawhai:

Wonder what Mike's thoughts are on the signing. I know he was worried about missing out on Danny's defense. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

Matthews is a better, more physical on-ball defender than DG and the drop off on off-ball defense isn't too significant. I'd call it a wash and then Schröder is a big upgrade over Regular Season Rondo. _________________ Under New Management

From an RPM perspective--which is not the complete perspective--the Lakers have upgraded the guard position. We will see what it really means once the new season starts.
By the way, Marc Gasol was the #10 ranked center last season. C'mon Rob, make it happen!
