Some links for intel regarding Wes Matthews. The intent here is to inform. Like many of you I had limited viewing of Wes. Folks like to toss things out like "injured", "achilles", etc. Obviously could be concerning, but that injury was in 2015, and focusing just on this past season, this is what we see:
1. Discussing Wes positive impact on Bucks D, including solid play vs Kawhai:
Wes Matthew’s dad played for the Lakers and won under Pat Riley. He also was the first person to coin the term “Threepeat” before Riley had it trademarked.
Quote:
It was actually a former Lakers guard who might have originally coined the phrase.
"I just thought of it as a catchy slogan," Wes Matthews Sr., who served as a reserve point guard for the Lakers in 1986-87 and 1987-88, told the reporter. "I give Pat a ton of credit for having the vision to do what he did."
Underrated steal! Key piece for a championship team. Solid 3& D value for money _________________ “God knew they couldn’t be on this Earth without each other. He had to bring them home to have them together.” – Vanessa Bryant
Welcome Wes, lemme ask ya, does your father pull out the Championship Ring he won with the Lakers in 1987-88 at family get togethers? _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
He can defend some of the stronger guys Green wasn’t as good with and close games. Trezz and Schroder will get all the pub but this signing is so key. Take some load of LeBron in the regular season and playoffs.

You don’t think his size is a bit small to defend SF?

He defended Jimmy Buckets about as well as I've seen him defended. He can guard anything from 1 to 3. Though 2 to 3 is preferable.

At first I thought this was a meh signing, but it's growing on me after reading some of the things you guys have posted about how good he is defensively and with hitting open 3s.
I just wonder if he can play the backup 3. I also really hope we re-sign KCP (or trade for Bogi) so that Wes doesn't have to start. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers
Wesley I remember most for his D on Kobe.
Used to always think, man that dude is giving Kobe some rough D.
And Kobe used to frustrate me always leaving him open from 3 on rotations!
Wes also has a decent midrange jumper something teams don’t use so he doesn’t use it much, but we do give guys the green light to shoot open midrange Js.
So I have good memories of this dude. I think this has been a very important signing.

I’ve always thought of Wesley Matthews as budget Danny Green.
That's probably a pretty apt analogy. Their numbers were pretty much identical last year.
Yup except for the salary numbers. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."
