Tinkle, Tinkle, you are star?
How I wonder if you are.
Up above the rim so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

Tinkle, Tinkle, you are star?
You're Troy Murphy from afar.
If that makes you wanna cry,
Then Joe Ingles is the guy.

I knew it, he’s a lefty

^ I think they’re banking on the fact that he had an enormously high usage rate in college and so he took a ton of contested shots. We’ll see if they are right.

is that good or bad Mike ?

Really really good. It's a case where the skill package is going to make him an NBA player (with NBA level strength once he builds up to it). He's not a guy not going to blow people away with verticality, quickness, and speed, but he can get defenders off position by playing off ball and tremendous shooting gravity.

But, he isn't just a shooter. He actually has court awareness and will dish out to open guys in a timely manner.

His advanced read line basically meets or surpasses every metric you'd want out of a good prospect.

TS% - NBA average
3ptR ~35%
FTr ~ 40%+
TReb ~ 12% (average)
Ast % ~ 20%+ (above average for a wing, there's creation chops in advantage situation out of PnR there)
Stl % ~ 3% (Excellent)
Block % ~ nearly 2%, which is great considering athletic tools
TO% ~ 12% (This is really good)
USG < 30. This part I'm unclear about because he's likely going to project as a role player next level. The question is, will his motor/activity/IQ hold even if USG drops? I'll bet that it will.

He's exactly the type that I would draft in the 2nd round. Being a jack of all trades works best when shooting is the best component to the point of having gravity.

He's got that.

What'll surprise people is 45% of his total shots are at the rim, with 42% of those shots being assisted, which is a really strong indicator of his off ball movement.

Five year senior. Coach's son. The highlights shows it. Nothing out of the scheme. Disciplined. Can score in three levels.

His future comes down to two questions. Can he hold the ground defensively? Facing NBA speed and intensity, can he shoot equally well?

2 levels unfortunately. That midrange area is really iffy.

I wouldn't expect him to break even defensively, but frankly, being a slight negative there but a positive at the offensive end is already a great outcome for a late 1st, let alone a UDFA.

He was on his way to being a first round pick after his freshman year, however, then the injuries started.

A 91 ranked RSCI prospect in 2015 with middling numbers and a part time starter as a freshman?

I question that.

Watching his videos, I was thinking, why would a pac-12 prospect like this be unheard of? Then I found out that coming out of high school, he was ranked in the 80s or 90s in top 100, and in the same range on some big boards this year. Declared for the draft last year and withdrew. So he was not really unheralded, just didn't improve enough to make mock drafts.

Why? Lack of athleticism, lack of strength, lack of upside. Are these enough to write off a very translatable offensive game? I don't know.

First priority for him is strength I think. It will be an encouraging sign if/when his efforts in the weight room lead to a visibly transformed body.

Strength is mostly what he would need the most. He has everything else to be solid tbh, especially on a team where he's going to be fed wide open attempts.

His injuries should not be a concern. It happened in his 1st and 2nd year, followed by three consecutive years of first team all Pac-12.

His lack of athleticism would have kept him out of the 1st round anyway, injury or not.

I just wonder how teams evaluate prospects like him. With a 2nd round pick, you would look of somebody who may "survive", e.g. stick longer than two years in this league. He has a typical SF size and offensive skills to do so.

I don't even really think he lacks athleticism. He's just not a typically explosive NBA player.

A complimentary glue guy that will earn his burn via film study. He will benefit the most around Gasol(s).

Let’s keep it in perspective. This signing is just one of the 16-20 roster spots.
There has to be a realistic balance between “ never make it” and expecting playing time.

These prospects that might earn a spot on an active roster at some point if they improve their skills, bodies and get a break with an injury to a guy in front of them on the depth charts. But it is hard to match the enthusiasm and expectations some of you seem to have for these guys. I am trying hard to find realistic impact for players like THT and McKinnie. And they have logged mins on the court.

I wish Trickle well. As I do all the others in Cacock, Harris, Simpson, or any others I can’t remember at the moment. From what I’ve read they seem to be solid prospects with big “ifs” to be fixed before they make an active 12 roster.

It would be awesome if they develop into contributing players. But most likely they are practice players assigned to GLeague if they have it this year.
