After looking him up on basketball reference, looks like McKinnie may be our backup 3. Hopefully he learns how to hit 3-pointers while he's with us.

I'm keeping this bloke (probably cutting Bell). He's a nice third string wing defender to have, means we don't have to go out and try to sign someone like an RHJ

McKinnie's contract has been fully guaranteed and he will begin the season on the Lakers' roster, according to Marks.

So he seems like a decent defender? And hit 35% ish from 3 while on the Warriors? Ok.

He shot 35.6% from 3P with Warriors and regressed to a startling 21.5% with Cavs. Hopefully, his shot will return with the gravity Bron, AD and co provides giving wide open looks to others.

Cavs will do that to you. I wouldn't rely on that. Warriors more likely comparison. If so, nice to have for depth.

I see a little bit of George Lynch in him. Works hard.

He's a career 62% FT shooter... not sure at 28 I'd expect his shot to come true.

I'd rather use his spot on someone like Boogie that might have a chance to develop into something or go out and get Batum who can actually hit his FTs

The only bummer so far of an otherwise excellent free agency... unless someone can tell me some secret power he possesses that doesn't show up in the box score

He's likely going to be a 12-15th depth player and not a regular rotation one but depth is depth.

Lakers may use him defensively depending on matchups, injuries or garbage time.

It's a money thing. He has a low salary that allows us to skirt the apron.

And that's cool. We're talking about the "break only for emergency" slots in the roster.

Some roster spots go to the Cooks and Dudleys of the NBA.

I don't know... I'd rather tie up a minimum slot with some random European that could actually become something. Hopefully, the reason will become clearer with time as our other moves have been excellent.

Hope he doesn't mind a jersey with a "?" instead of a number...

I remember him when with GS to play defense and was active overall. Even played playoff mins iirc.

Not a bad end of the bench vet min type IMO. He regains his 3pt % and he might surprise.

Hasn’t he had 2 knee surgeries already? He has no meniscus in one of them. Just saying ...

Quick search just showed he did have knee surgery in college. Did he have another since becoming a pro in the past 3 yrs?

Something to be worried about or a case of most vet mins are going to have flaws?

He tore his meniscus twice. Second time he had a menisectomy. But he’s an end of bench guy. Unless we are routinely blowing out teams by the 3rd quarter he won’t see too much playing time. But in a condensed schedule he may play more to conserve our starters
