Man, if we get this $5m and the Schroeder trade $1.7m diff, that's $6.7m Pelinka can play with

We know how this works.

Complaints will come in about the big, bad Lakers and Silver will have to deny this just to placate the governors/owners.

I’m assuming league should let Lakers know before Nov. 20

Yeah, you'd think they would have made the decision before tomorrow. Is it really that tough of a thing to get together and decide on?

Pincus said this waiver could get resolved some time in the season. In that case it would only help reduce our final tax burden. It would still be useful for 2021 FA though.

Too bad. I'd prefer to have the "buying" power now...

Wouldn’t really make sense since the Lakers just didn’t want to play him and he played for another team immediately after being waived.

Agreed. It would be great to have that resolved positively now!

Pretty ridiculous the league can't have a decision on this made by now. Reminds me of the IRS...

If we use the full MLE and get hard capped, it could come into play before the trade deadline. But hoping it will be known by this week is probably wishful thinking.

I doubt we get this...Some experts were interviewed about this, and said it would be very doubtful that the league would grant us this.

The league has a lot on its plate right now. I can see why a petition like this, more than two years after he was bought out, isn't a priority. My guess is this in the type of petition it's easy to give a quick no, but it takes time to say yes.

It's a 5 minute decision. They could've made it immediately.

We kinda need to know if we’re getting this money back before tomorrow, right?

Hell, everyone knows that everyone is tampering right now. We need this decision made yesterday.

Apparently, it's a low priority. I don't think the league cares if it's free agency or not. They will take their sweet time.

I think it's more complex than you imagine, especially two years after the fact. They probably would need to interview Deng, and other people around him. Examine medical records. Consult with doctors. They might need to get input from the insurance company, which could be impacted if Deng was ruled to retire because of injury.

It's not a casual matter.

As activeverb said, it's a quick No, so if it takes longer it is in our interest. I'd rather have it for 2021 than have a quick No

The Lakers waited two years after Deng accepted a buyout to apply for this. It's hard to argue that the league really needs to rush and make a quick decision on this.

It's kind of like Trump desperately hoping the Supreme Court takes up his issues. Just because it's important to Trump doesn't mean it's important to the Supreme Court.

I don't expect the league to make a ruling before the season starts, and I expect the ruling to go against us.

Yeah, no surprise there.

Maybe they didn't want the backlash other GMs would give them if they gave Rob another $5Mil to play with

Rob pretty much forced them to say no. Pop is already furiously calling Silver daily leaving filthy incoherent messages.
