The biggest thing here is that an older vet team around a very old Bron, got a lot younger.

Dudes 27 or younger:

AD 27 - superstar, DPOTY level big
Schroder 27 - 3rd option/PG-combo guard
Trez 26 - 6thman/small ball C
KCP 27 - starting level 2-way guard/small wing with 3nD skills
Kuz 25 - 18 ppg scoring level starter/10-12 ppg bench scoring wing
Caruso 26 - energy gritty player who changes momentum off the bench
THT 20 years old guard with potential to be a rotation player

That is 7 guys that will likely be in your rotation this season. Even great re-build projects, their dream is to have these many guys eventually in their primes peaking together.

Last season, I felt we were the best team on defense, but on offense we were not the most talented, and that it could end up being a reason that it just didn't work out for us with regards to winning it all. It was obvious there were holes on offense that we had to work around.

Through the brilliance of the coaching, Lebron/AD and the role guys just working their tail off, we were able to get away with those obvious weaknesses.

Things like:

1) No consistent PG threat to use for screen/rolls or drive kicks, when Bron was not doing it(and Bron is more of a bully ball player now than he is drive and kick).

2) Bench minutes when Bron sits. Just could not win these match ups, and often had to just hope we stayed afloat in the bench vs other team's bench wars.

3) Having to sit McGee/Howard anytime the opposing team went small, and using Kieff more. Kieff is a good spot up shooter, but he has no rim protection skills. We lost a lot of those microball wars in some games. Having someone like Trez instead of Kieff, in thos micrboball wars, will help. And having Marc Gasol, who can pass and shoot the 3 in the matchups we need size, again, addressing a hole in our offense we had with Howard/McGee.

Not saying we will win the championship, so many things in play for that. But I definitely think the team has even a better make up to win it all, than they did last season. They were probably a top 5 talent team last year. This year, I think they are the most talented. But talent doesn't always translate to wins. What I appreciate about Rob is he looked at the team's weaknesses and addressed them even though his team won the ring. You rarely see that in the NBA. The weaknesses of no consistent second drive&kick/screen&roll ballhanding guard, bench play, the Centers/rim protecting bigs having to sit out playoff series against small teams, man all of that was addressed beautifully.

And he did it in a way such there is some flexibility still for future S&T's, since the really big money is locked only into the franchise players, other contracts are either moderate/trade-able or 1-2 year durations.
I've said it before and I will say it again, this offseason was absolutely masterful execution.

Rob was on Mason and Ireland yesterday. Romona was filling in for John. What a professional killer Rob is. He didn’t even mention the fact how they, especially Romona, publicly drug him through the mud. He did mentioned how he wants to see Romona’s son in a Lakers jersey though, which gave me some “The Godfather” vibes. 🤣

After Rob left, they both admitted to being wrong about him, but Romona should have apologized as well. She, as well as Woj, took it personal when criticizing him.

I need to hear this interview, including the admitting wrongness afterward part. Is it posted somewhere?

People like Romona and Woj are dirty. Blackmailing front office with positive coverage for insider info. They may provide news but their analysis are completely bias.

Kuzma in a team friendly deal? Have yourself an off season Rob! I’d say lock up DS too, but that just being greedy. Right?

Difference between actual GM and internet GMs:

We need shotblocking, a big just someone with more agility than gasol and someone to allow AD play the 4.

Internet GM: let’s get Lowry

Pelinka: Drummond

We need either a tall wing who we can throw at the kawhi’s and kd’s of the world or a legit shooter to improve our spacing.

Internet GM: Let’s get avery bradley

I’m not saying getting something else is bad, but get the needs done first

Definitely. I like lowry and bradley, but the roster still have some deficiencies. Maybe we should address them first.

Tall or lanky wings?
LeBron
THT
KCP
Wes Matthews
Kyle Kuzma
McKinnie

We got an assortment to do that, none of them are going to actuall stop Kawhi or KD.

If you replace Caruso with Bradley, you get more of an upgrade.

The two options are backup point guard Avery Bradley
or wing player Otto Porter Jr.

So either one would help our needs. Just that OPJ means THT is moved to the backup 1.

2019: LeBron, JaVale, Dudley, Cook (Lance, Beasley)
2020: AD, Rondo, Dwight, Avery Bradley, DG, Markieff (JR Smith, Dion Waiters)
2021: Schroeder, Trez, Drummond (Gasol, Wes)

I’d say that’s pretty good list

Tht, wes and kcp are not tall. You can call tht lanky but he is more of a guard than wing. Mckinnie is not playable. You’re left with kuz and a 36 yr old lebron.

Bradley as an upgrade over caruso is arguable. Can go either way.

Lebron - yes, but the point is to not have to play him 45 minutes
THT - nowhere near long or lanky enough for Kawhi/PG types
KCP - slight/wispy, even smaller than THT, gets eaten alive by big wings
Wes Matthews - More heft than THT/KCP but better suited for smaller 3's
Kyle - Yes
McKinnie - Unknown playoff quantity, no idea if he can play 10+ solid minutes in playoff situations.

So we're left with Lebron/Kuz, it would be nice to have 1 more option that can shoot the 3.

Did you know that THT has a 7'1 wingspan?

I do. He's 20 yo, plays relatively poor team-defense at this point in his career, and has not faced the elite/long NBA wings for many minutes so far in his career. Would you ride with that or go to battle with the option of another wing who has actual multi-year experience against various elite NBA wings? (And shoots better than 17% from the 3 btw)
