Marc is not playable in the post season, he will be glued to the bench. Hopefully AD will play the 5 during the playoffs

He was the starting center for the world champions 18 months ago and played over 30 minutes per game in the playoffs. I think its a stretch to call him unplayable in the post season. There are some match ups where he's going to shine.

He may be valuable, but the Raptors ran a different offense than LA, and Marc's value in that offense was a lot higher than in LA's. I would like to see us get Marc the ball more often in plays so he can be a bigger part of the offense, and more situations where he is feeding the post entry pass to AD or Bron, who kick out on doubles. By playoffs, Marc needs to be entrenched in some high screen and pops, point Center, and High-Low Big to Big sequences.

When we think about it there will be times when Gasol will not be playable, but that includes Trez as well. Gasol is not "unplayable" in the playoffs. That's an extreme pov.

Come playoff time both will be used according to the match ups.

He flushed a lot of money for the love of the ganja. Similar to Ricky Williams in the NFL in that way.

Now no one cares as long as you man up on the court/field as it is quasi legal in both leagues.

Seems like a huge liability on defense. its open lane season it seems when he is on the floor. Wasn’t our defense the main reason we got number 17?

It starts with the player who is on the ball. Once Dennis woke up, and Lebron as well, the Lakers stopped being exposed by Gasol not being an elite rim protection guy.

The reason you want an elite rim protection guy is that in case you lose your man on a drive, he can save you. But guess what is even better - not losing your man.

So when Dennis played D like he was capable of, it was like Avery Bradley last year. I freaking loved it. When we lock in on the perimeter we do not need Gasol to be McGee. He can be a great positional defender and it can work very well.

IMO, if Dennis, KCP, Wes, Kuz, Caruso and Bron, if these perimeter guys defend all out then the need for Gasol to be anything more than he is will be moot.

Rim protection is more than just "how many shots did he block".

Gasol is one of the best 'rim/paint/post' protectors in the NBA, he was last year especially, he's not one of the most premiere shot blockers, but I really don't care about that if he does what he did last year from a defensive standpoint.

I actually really like what Gasol is bringing - he is so smart defensively he makes a ton of little plays. And while he is not a rim protector in the traditional sense he is affecting a bunch of plays just with his positioning and size. His rebounding hasn't been that bad either.

Come playoff time when the game slows down, I think he will be really important for us.

If we avoided falling into too much Le-ISO or Lebron P&R and get him the ball to hit cutters I think he can help us alot offensively as well.

LeBron James & Marc Gasol have the best Net Rating (+28.3) of any two players in the league who have played at least 100 minutes together so far this season.

https://twitter.com/LakerFilmRoom/status/1346209492615135232

They're followed by Kawhi and Pat, Teague and Tatum, Harris and Embiid, and coming in fifth is ... Lebron and KCP

Oh and Lebron and Schroeder is 6th xD

Lebron and AD has temporarily fallen to 9th but that will improve when they both ramp up for the playoffs and stop cruising

A lot of LAL pairings on that list.

LeBron/Gasol tops in NBA is pretty intriguing, though. The passing/hoop IQ combo is kind of off the charts there to go with what looks like our best D Rtg of those top pairings.

Also, LeBron/Caruso doesn't have enough time together this season yet.

This one's easy. Andrew Bynum in his prime (injuries and all) dominated when he wanted to vs Gasol (Gasol had nothing when it came to stopping Bynum) and Bynum was considered the 2nd best center in the league after Dwight. Yao in his prime is arguably the best big man in the game (Center) period once Shaq's dominance ended with only Dwight and Embiid in the running for that mantle

Its not even fair to include Gasol's name with Yao as Yao was at a different level. Yao was the ONLY player who gave Shaq a hard time. Its to bad he suffered injuries and had no longevity.

but a huge mofo who can jump the (bleep) out of the block, strong as (bleep) and blocks the (bleep) out of you from help side will intimidate you, which indirect deter you from driving into the paint. right now we have no one that does that. we need someone like dwight seriously

He did a helluva job on Jonas, that makes me confident he can hold his own against Embiid and Jokic.

Marc just needs to stay healthy, he will be good in some games and will suck in others. The shorter season is a benefit to him and Lebron.

He is perfectly engineered for just such opponents. He's an intelligent oak tree. Strong base, long limbs, and fearless against those guys.

And then, of course, he brings them out of the lane on the other end with his 3pt shooting. It's the fleet footed Adebayo's & Ibaka's that you have Trez, and even AD, for.

Fan just does not see the the overall impact Marc has when he is on the floor. They only remember the high flying blocks Dwight and McGee does maybe twice a game. Marc is such a smart basketball player and very fundamentally sound that it can easily be missed. Just ask Toronto if they would trade for Marc for Baynes right now. I believe with a bit more seasoning our def will be tougher with Marc as the anchor. We do need another big body, just as an emergency if Marc gets into foul problem.
