I still remembered the night he dropped 81.

It was a Sunday I remembered because I had to go to church.

When I got out and started listening to the game in my car radio it was the end of the 3rd, and I was still driving on my way home when he started going bananas in the 4th and I sensed something special in the air, so I called my friend and asked him if I could come over and watch the game with him since his house was closer.

By the time I had gotten to my friend's house he had just hit a 3 for his 70th point. We were just high fiving after every point, and I spent maybe 2 more hours that night at my friends house just watching ESPN highlights with him after the game.

I am not sure where I was, but I have a hazy sense that I didn't even hear about it until a couple of days after it happened.

That was before I had a cellphone, so it was a quieter time, when news and events of the world were in the background of life.

Wow, 15 years. I was at my cousin's house and she and her husband are big Lakers fans. We were playing poker with about 6 people. The game was on the tv as we played. I got knocked out of the poker game early so I sat on the couch and watched the game. When Kobe started heating up I called my Dad and brother to make sure they were watching the game. Incredible performance. Miss you Kobe.

There are 3 thinks I remember clearly about that game.

The pregame interview with Chris Rock sitting courtside, and the smack talk toward the Lakers.

The 81 point show Kobe put on.

Chris Rock's face after the game.

’Do you think Kobe is the best player in the game?’ I was like, ‘No, Dwyane Wade.’ I was hating on him so bad. I was hating on him so bad, almost like he heard it.”

Why would a blowhard loser Knicks fans show up to a random LAL/TOR game anyway?

I'm sure he's not the only public figure that disliked Kobe at the time, that came to a Laker game.

I was at home frantically trying to tune in to sportscenter hoping they'd cut into the game. They finally did around the middle of the 4th quarter when Kob had around 70. I remember being happy for Kob since he could've got about 90 vs Dallas a few days before, but opted to sit out of the 4th.

Decompressing with a pint at a pub in Berkeley with a lady friend. The game was on mute in the background until the 4th Q and someone told the bartender to turn it up, he eventually switched all the tvs to the Lakers v Raptors, and everyone in that half-full bar got into every point Kobe scored on a random Sunday night NBA game.

I was 11 watching at home.

I remember watching the first half and turning off the game at halftime being so mad we were losing to the freaking Raptors. Went downstairs to eat dinner with my parents, then turned the game back on with about 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter just to check the score. When I turned it on there was a graphic on the screen that Kobe had 55. Watched the rest of the game in disbelief on the little 13 inch TV we had upstairs.

Yes, we had a game thread. One of the oldest posts on here as some got purged when Jason used to do some house cleaning way back when.

what did he say?

They asked him if Kobe's was the best player in the league and he was very reluctant and said that he's the best player on the worst team. That there's players like Duncan, Wade, and Shaq on GOOD teams that you gotta consider.

Saw the entire game & thought it was going to be a boring game against the Raptors -- then I was screaming at the TV to give Kobe the ball on every possession. It was as if the good Lord whispered in Kobe's ear "shoot it".

I was at home. I don't think I was posting here at the time, certainly not in game threads. I was posting in a little known message board called gamefaqs at the time, lol.

I remember watching at half thinking Kobe was hot but the Lakers just didn't have enough to win that game. I didn't think Kobe was going to engage God mode and destroy the Raptors.

Even in my wildest dreams I never imagined Kobe, or any player, would get 80+ points in a modern nba game. I also wasn't surprised that Kobe did it! He'd been lights out that entire season. It was the happiest I'd been for a midseason game, rivaled only by that game where we got Gasol.

This is one of those memories you cherish for all time. RIP Kobe, thanks for all the memories.

You were doin lines off a strippers' culo and were awake for 4 days prior to 1/22 and you crashed so hard that you slept for 3 days and only remember that week in a hazy sense. Someone told you about it a couple days after that and that's why you remember it hazily. How close to this is the real reason?
