Winning all those OT games really helped. Now we have a large cushion of games to work with. We could afford to drop a lot of games and still be in the playoffs. There's no homecourt advantage so that's good for us and bad for teams with good homecourts like Denver and Utah. _________________ LeGoat! LeMazing! LeGend!
Zero chance he’s back before the all star break. I would expect 6 weeks minimum. You don’t push calf strains since they lead to Achilles tears in basketball. First he needs to completely recover from the strain, then he needs PT to strengthen the calf afterwards. It will take time.
this will have negative impact on LeBrons health unfortunately. He’ll be playing bigger minutes in the coming games. It sucks the AD in his prime is always hurt and the old guy is the opposite.

This is not on AD. This is on the coach & FO. There were more than a few of us crying for him to be sat down after the first time he went down. It was obvious, and I'm no doctor, that he needed more rest.
Whether he felt pressured to return, or whatever happened, an amateur like myself shouldn't be able to evaluate a situation like that better than the pros handling his career.

Lakers should just make up an injury for lebron and sit him 1-2 games before the all star week, so he can’t get a prolonged period of rest
With this news I bet the pressure to land another big has turned up a few notches.
If the Drummond to Raptors deal falls apart we can get in on it and snatch Drummond away and put him at the starting C so once AD comes back we will have a twin tower of AD and Drummond

Lol...How do the Lakers get Drummond exactly?
Doesn’t he make $30mill?
I'm guessing he is out until April. Calling things a "calf strain" is just sugar-coating things. He has not been moving well for most of the year. He is at high risk of causing further injury to the tendon. We will be fortunate if just rest and rehab gets him to 100% with no further problems.
If they are accurate in their terminology, tendinosis is worse than tendinitis. It can signify a chronic problem and degeneration of the tendon increasing the risk of severe injury.

28 mil, and we’d have to give up 2 of Trezz/KCP/DS to make the salary work. On top of all that, he probably won’t play much in the playoffs either. The lakers defense involves a lot of switches with big on small, so he is certainly not the one we need for the playoffs. Maybe a fill in like dedmon or something is more likely.

Most strains heal, KD was the exception as he was rushed back

Sure but the tendinosis is the more concerning part of it.

That heals faster than calf strain. This is different for everyone, he will be monitored with more tests for sure
With any injury there is a spectrum. That's why we are always guessing from afar without the medical chart.
Calf strain means achilles issue period. We can get into semantics of tendon, paratenon it's the achilles.
Best case, his MRI the tendon looks totally fine and he feels better in a couple of weeks and is back to normal. A bad scenario is degeneration of the tendon on MRI that can be 50/50 whether it responds to rest and rehab and that would be 2-3 months. Worse case is he does not get better and that tendon is a ticking time bomb ready to rupture.
What happened with KD likely is he had tendon degeneration, came back too soon and ruptured it right away. We will never know if he would have gotten better if they took more time off.
Thanks. How easy/hard is it to diagnose degeneration? In other words, is it something that is apparent from an MRI, or is it something that becomes apparent only when it causes significant problems?
Tendinosis would be diagnosed confirmed based on radiologic images (MRI). There's often a gap between clinical symptoms and radiographic findings. There's such an art to the practice of medicine as it's a challenge when the clinical symptoms don't match the MRI. Each person is different with pain threshold (think of Kobe RIP Mamba). AD was saying that he felt fine but there's always a psychological component to pain and other circumstance. AD has the role of Bron little brother and he sees big brother out there playing heavy minutes never missing a game and I would speculate some of that played into AD desire to get back out there and say he was "fine".
Lakers got to be careful.
But this is part of the game.
I don’t worry about worst case scenarios with injuries because there’s always that chance he could even come down badly on a lob conversion dunk attempt and land weird on his knees and break something. It’s always a risk in BBall.
Not being an Achilles year is a good thing so now all about management.

Not sure if I clearly answered your question in my previous post. MRI technology is really good these days so you can usually see degeneration pretty clearly. That being said, we won't know in the public how the MRI really looks and have to keep our fingers crossed.
Well if he didn’t tear it, we should consider ourselves lucky. I imagine they won’t roll the dice a 2nd time and he will be out the max time, prob 8 weeks?
2) Is it possible that AD tears his achilles even if we rest him right up to Game 1 of Round 1 of the playoffs? Yes - no one can guarantee otherwise.
So basically, rest this guy right up to the playoffs (or maybe a few games prior for conditioning). If he tears it in the playoffs, our playoff run is cooked, but at least we know that we did everything we could to prevent the injury from happening (i.e. it was a ticking time bomb that was waiting to go off).
