Why does people here wanted McGee than Gasol as starting C?

If you compare Gasol's defense matchup(this season) vs McGee (Last season as starting C). Gasol is doing a better job limiting opposing centers. The only clear advantage of McGee is vs Carter Jr.

One thing I've just notice is McGee defended the mobile big men better like Horford, Aldridge and Carter Jr.

But the Gasol defend the slower big men better. So I dont think the Lakers need to worry about Jokic and Embiid in the playoffs, Gasol can defend them. Meanwhile the more mobile big men will be defended by AD during playoffs, assuming he is already healthy by then.

Did you know that:

Embiid vs Gasol was:
5/13 (38.5%) - 2018-2019 Reg Season
15/47 (31.9%) - 2019 playoffs
1/16 (6.3%) - 2019-2020 Reg Season

Looks like Gasol has Embiid's numbers

3/7 so far this season though. I think the Lakers just need to use Gasol like how the Raptors used him.

Anybody that wants McGee over Gasol does not know what the hell he is talking about. Dwight Howard is a different story however

Gosh, why didn't anyone else think of starting a thread about our centers?

We cant really compare howard as he was a backup center guarding the opponent's backup center. We are not really sure if DH will be effective as starting center unless its against Jokic which Gasol handled well too. So as I can conclude that Gasol is better than McGee as Lakers starting C, and Dwight is just a backup Center.

Let have his DH data in 2020 playoffs and this season when he started during Embiid's absence

Jokic stat vs
Dwight (last playoffs)
Matchup Min: 20 mins. FG: 8/16
Dwight (this season)
Matchup Min: 5 mins. FG: 2/3
Gasol
Matchup Min: 8 mins. FG: 4/8

Nurkic stat vs
Dwight (last playoffs)
Matchup Min: 9 mins. FG: 2/8
Gasol
Matchup Min: 4 mins. FG: No attempt

Plumlee stat vs
Dwight (last playoffs)
Matchup Min: 3 mins. FG: 1/3
Dwight (this season)
Matchup Min: 5 mins. FG: 2/2
Gasol
Matchup Min: 10 mins. FG: 3/4

Theis stat vs
Dwight (this season)
Matchup Min: 5 mins. FG: 4/5
Gasol
Matchup Min: 2 mins. FG: 0/2

Valanciunas stat vs
Dwight (this season)
Matchup Min: 4 mins. FG: 2/4
Gasol
Matchup Min: 13 mins. FG: 5/13

Drummond stat vs
Dwight (this season)
Matchup Min: 4 mins. FG: 1/4
Gasol
Matchup Min: 2 mins. FG: 2/4

R.Williams stat vs
Dwight (this season)
Matchup Min: 4 mins. FG: No Attempt
Gasol
Matchup Min: 2 mins. FG: No Attempt

I dont know how most of here can see that DH is much better than Gasol with this, though it is still a small sample size as both are having a different assignments because dwight is matchup against opponents bench players. Dwight is actually not defending great when he start for the Sixers this season. Look at those matchups.

Why does it have to be one or the other?

If JaVale gets bought out and the Lakers could bring him back and he and Gasol would combine to be the perfect center.

JaVale provides the speed, athleticism, rebounding and shot blocking.

Gasol provides the spacing, shooting and the passing.

It would be a blessing if he is bought out and would be willing to return.

Yup, but most of here wants to eliminate Gasol in favor of McGee or Dwight. Which I dont get because he's a better starter than the 2.

I think that was actually the plan personally I have always felt that way. Not specifically about JaVale but just that they had planned to have Marc and a really athletic other big. I don’t think they ever planned to just have Marc but if I had to guess Dwight Howard’s shenanigans put a wrench in the works.

I miss Howard's athleticism. His hops. He came off the bench so Harrell is really his replacement. 'Trez bring a lot of athleticism as well and is a better scorer overall, especially from the line.
Sure I miss McGee, D39 and AD towering over the opponents with cat like quickness and hops, but Gasol, Trez and AD bring more offensively. Gasol is a hell of a passer and all of them can hit freethrows. Hack-a-Harrell or Hack-a-Gasol for a Lakers win.

McGee was a bad player for us last season. He wouldn’t be helping us right now even if we had him. Howard is a different story.
