Tanden's nomination seems to be collapsing.

Shalanda Young, who was nominated for the deputy director of OMB, is rumored to be a leading contender to replace Tanden.

Is that because Republicans are trying to block Biden's nominations or is Tanden a poor choice? Or is it Joe Manchin? If so what's up with him?

Repubs are hypocrites and overly-sensitive, so Tanden's mean tweets are why the Repubs don't like or want her.

She was a bad choice in the sense that the Dems might want to nominate somebody else and save this type of contention for a more important fight.

Eh, everybody is always on the Dems to fight harder and be tougher and as soon as a highly qualified pit fighter (tanden is a very talented veteran politico) said something aggressive, ooooh, we need someone nicer. Eff that. They are picking the right people for the job.

Any word on the Green New deal? I'm itching to make a purchase but I'm hoping they hook Tesla up with some more federal tax credits. Waiting is killing me.

Eh, no need to give ammunition to the "both sides" BS by playing the same game and give it legs. One of the best things that has happened politically in this country is that Biden has been the anti-Trump and has wisely and successfully avoided the opportunities to do so, even as inviting they may have been.

We don't need to fight tough. We need to fight smart. Choosing your battles and not getting sucked into needless mudslinging is the way you do that.

Collins is a NO. I think I also read that Romney is a NO. He'd have to get some votes from other Republicans.

You'd think Biden would know if he had the votes before he nominated someone. But some have suggested that she's some kind of sacrificial lamb that both progressives and conservatives can unite to oppose, but his other picks would go through.

If Manchin is gonna be a B about this, that's kinda scary.

I get you. Tanden isn’t being picked as an act of aggression. A few emails aside she’s a really well admired person who they want because she’s right for the job. They may have to give her up for something else, but it sucks when you’re down to having your nominees killed by your own people.

Btw, Manchin is also wanting to hold up the well qualified Native American woman who would be the secretary of the interior. But he was fine with Jeff Sessions for AG.

Manchin has some misogynistic and racist inclinations, it would appear to me, or he's really scared to lose his job as a senator.

Someone said on MSNBC earlier this evening that maybe Biden can offer Burr, who is retiring (and already on the outs with his local R groups, they censored him for voting aye in the impeachment trial) something to vote yes, like an OMB office in North Carolina or some other minor "pork". If Biden wants to expend the influence to do it, that is. And Murkowski hasn't said which way she is voting yet. Maybe something she wants or needs. Just need one R to offset Manchin.

It might also be Sinema, in addition to Manchin. She hasn't said how she will vote. And she's trying to establish herself as a moderate/powerful Dem, ala Manchin.

We gotta keep tryin. When Rs and Cruz pull somethin like that, you gotta make a play even if just to say further on down the road that Dems did XYZ for Texas while Ted fled. If there's one thing people hate more than moving, it's having their electricity shut off AT ALL, FOR EVEN AN HOUR, much less 2 daze in Arctic temps. Initially, I was of the F those people people, but AOC wouldn't be out there while Cruz slithered away for no reason. And I wanna be more cynical than the day is long, but if AOC can be at least cautiously optimistic, so can we. You mule, you. All stubborn. Mules are unnatural Satanic hybrid creatures, btw. Male donkey and a female horse. Female mules are supposed to be barren, but some have sired young in rare circumstances. I just wiki'd your spirit animal.

The misogyny and racism is blaring like a siren. If you don't think Democratic women and especially Democratic women of color aren't noticing the blatant double standard being applied to women of color vs white male nominees, I don't know what to tell you. If the Democratic party can't be bothered to fight for women of color, then what's the point?

So what to do? is 50-50 more important than what you're saying? I don't know the answer to this
