Tell it to the millions of Americans living in Puerto Rico and D.C. who won't get representation. Or the millions of Americans who will probably not get enough of an expansion in healthcare, which they need. Or the millions of Americans who will get less COVID relief than they need, later than they need. Or the millions of Americans who won't get a $15 minimum wage.

Heck tell it to the Democrat Congresspeople who voted to approve the ACA back in an election year (2010) even though they knew it would cost them their seats. Elected officials who put their country over themselves.

Manchin isn't up for reelection till 2024. And he'll still get portrayed as a socialist then. I'm not even sure if this is a politically smart for him. 3-4 years is a looong time.

He's a selfish (bleep), cares about what he perceives is best for his political career over the needs of the other 380 million people in this country.

If Republicans wanted to pass a bill to eat the homeless. He'd say, "I believe in bipartisanship and compromise. So I'm voting for cannibalism of the homeless from the waist down."

Far too often he makes me embarrassed that he's in the same party I am.

Looks like we didn't really win the senate if it's still 51-49 GOP leaning, Kamala won't even get to tiebreak. There's gotta be something Biden team can offer for Manchin vote

Even worse it feels like 52-48 a lot of the time with Sinema in there as well. The 50-50 tie has made them extremely relevant and they are both relishing their time in the spotlight. Thanks Maine voters and North Carolina guy who couldn’t keep it in his pants.

yeah, they need to learn from the so-called 'moderate' GOP who would condemn an unjust GOP bill/plan to the fullest but still vote with GOP

We told Georgia voters $2K stimulus checks would be going out immediately if we won the state. Now I'm hearing late march is the earliest the bill gets passed? And a major reason why, is the bill must please Lord Manchin.
Alot of promises were made in the last election cycle. And in 2022, nobody on the left is going to want to hear about how McConnell stopped this or that bill since we technically have control of the Senate.
But hey Manchin doesn't have to worry about disappointing the party base and possible low turnout in the midterms, he's not up till 2024.

I'm not wasting anymore energy on him. Last thing I'll say is, the filibuster will eventually be removed. It'll just be when the roles are reversed. GOP in the White House, GOP controlled house, and a 50 something GOP majority in the Senate. And we'll all look back on this time and think, what if.

March 14th is the deadline they've set for themselves (boosted UI expires thereafter). Stimulus checks should be the first thing most people see.

John Thune in trying to ague against a $15 minimum wage accidentally makes the argument that even $15 isn’t enough. If he made $6 in the late 70s like he said, that’s close to $24 an hour now. I guess having his staff search for “inflation, how does it work?” was too much.

GOP Sen. John Kennedy calls Haaland a "neo-socialist left-of-Lenin whackjob," per Hill pool. On Tanden, he says, "I'm not saying she's a smoked turkey, but the smoker is heating up."

So Tanden should not be head of OMB according to the GOP because she "mean tweeted" senators in the past but it is OK for a senator to bad mouth the nominees in a press conference? Yeah that makes sense. Kennedy's racism and misogyny are surpassed only by his hypocrisy.

Also Kennedy says there is "concern by both Republicans Democrats" that Tanden's "allegiance is not to America and it's not to President Biden, it's to Secretary Clinton." So now she is un-American because she was allied with Hillary.

Yeah, it’s a shame that two senators are placing their own positions (one of them erroneously imo, since the other senate seat from her state went to a pretty progressive guy) ahead of what could be an amazing legacy of accomplishment. What the Pelosi/Black Caucus/Progressive Caucus in the house and the Biden administration agree upon is pretty impressive.

The damn parliamentarian ruled that the $15/hr minimum wage can't be included in a reconciliation bill while corporate tax cuts that "pay for themselves" according to voodoo math are a-ok. Infuriating.

To be fair, tax rates are specific to a budget because they set revenue rate collections. The fact that this has to be done this way in the first place is what’s stupid.

True, I was venting over how ridiculous this all is and decided to post a poor analogy out of frustration. We're 2-4 party votes away from helping so many Americans and strengthening American democracy that setbacks like this become particularly painful.

I think it would be easier to explain the internal combustion engine to the founding fathers than the Senate reconciliation process.

My Senator:

Democrats should not be held hostage by Mitch McConnell to help struggling families. It is time to get rid of the filibuster to raise the minimum wage to $15 and pass the other bold policies that Americans voted for us to deliver.

Bernie announces his next move: An amendment to take tax deductions away from large corporations that don't pay above $15-an-hour wages. Wants it IN the reconciliation bill

A thing about media that's fascinating only to me is a MSM adjacent critique of the NYT and WP when it comes to their conservative politicized coverage of trans issues, but bringing up their conservative bias when covering US domestic politics is beyond the pail.

So I accidentally read a Fox News article last night. And also looked at the comments. O.M.F.G. I was shocked, even after I knew exactly what I was in for when I realized I was on Fox News.

Bruce Springsteen had been busted for drunk driving, and had a court appearance this week. Turned out the actual story was he was in a national recreation area in New Jersey on his motorcycle. Some fans recognized him, took pictures with him, and he had two shots of tequila with them. Hadn't driven away yet. Cop saw what happened & busted him. He blew .02.

In the court appearance the prosecutor said he didn't have a case and asked the judge to dismiss the DWI, which he did. He did plead to consuming alcohol in a national recreation area where it was illegal to do so, but even the judge said that law is just two years old.

Trump Jr. got ahold of it, and tweeted about this "liberal privilege." The Fox news article fell over themselves defending Trump's POV without mentioning any of the pertinent facts relating to why it was dismissed. And then the commenters just ran with it. Although some were generous enough to point out that it wasn't liberal privilege, it was just rich person privilege. One guy kept insisting that .02 was many times higher than .08. And the general tenor was that this is just another example of how bad liberals are. And you see what happens? They steal an election.

We really are lost if this is the sole source of information (and therefore inculcation) for such a large population of people, whose attitudes already predispose them to this kind of thinking.

GOP Sen. John Kennedy apologized for calling Neera Tanden a "whackjob". Then realized it was the other brown woman (Deb Haaland) that he had actually insulted so he apologized to her as well. It's an easy mistake, they are both Indians, right He should just preemptively apologize to all the Biden nominees that aren't white men.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the part where the Boss was on his way to a secret child sex ring party with Hillary Clinton where they were planning to eat babies that night.

How can you expect him to tell all those non-white women apart?

The wacky Q-lady Marjorie whatshername has been wearing a mask on the House floor that says, "This mask is as useless as Joe Biden." She hasn't apologized, but mean tweets are disqualifying.

All the Democratic Senators who feel this way need to put a full-court press on Schumer, who then needs to put a full-court press on Biden, who altogether need to put a full-court press on Sinema and Manchin.

Quote:
Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT

The filibuster is killing democracy.

Because otherwise -- no minimum wage hike, no voting rights act, and on and on. Otherwise, 2 wasted years setting up GOP to steal 2022 via blame and voter restriction laws on steroids.
