Do you guys think that if this Kidd trade actually goes through and if we pick up Pippen that we could contend? Both will help make the team run a more efficient offense, both would help on the defensive end on the perimiter and with rebounding and decision making.

I think we would be come a much savier team with veteran leadership and direction .

THoughts>?

Kidd/Smush/Farmar
Kobe/Evans/Sasha
Walton/Pippen
Odom/Turiaf
Bynum/Collins

it's all speculative and a long shot - but my guess would be yes - if the miracle trade goes down and opens up the roster spots.

Like I said in the other pippen thread I think he would be a big help to this team and with him and kidd with kobe and lamar I think it would make us contenders for sure but to me we already have the personel to make a good run if we are healthy. I think Pippen would be a better fit instead of kidd because kidd is more of a fast break type of player if phil is willing to tweak the offense to let kidd do more freelance stuff that would be great but I think that we just need to get healthy and add a scottie Pippen type player because of the vet leadership and the tri knowledge that kidd would in my opinon have trouble getting use to(exGary Payton).

Well, we would certainly go from one of the youngest to one of the oldest teams instantly.

How many minutes do you realistically think Scottie could play effectively?

Emplay do you think Pippen is a possiblity for the lakers to bring that big guard Ron Harper type player that phil is looking for?

Honestly I don't know... what kind of shape is he in? For sure he wont be the Pippen of the Bulls days or even the Portland days but I think he could give us a good 15-20 minutes and bring some stability, especially in the playoffs. Not to mention what he would do for the morale of the team that seems to be completely wrecked as of late.

pippen is too old to play good defense IMO. but kidd would help tremendously b/c he would limit penetration and help our bigs stay out of foul trouble.

but if theres a roster spot then we get Pippen for basically nothing... ITs a win win situation... Nothing to lose by getting him.

i wouldn't expect pippen to elevate our team significantly, but i think he'd give us a solid 10 minutes off the bench. I'm betting he can still run an offense and shoot a jumper.

He could also provide extended tutoring for Odom.

i actually think this is a sign that the kidd deal is very far along. it obviously opens a number of roster spots for us. if he were to come back, it makes sense for him to come to a situation he knows and who knows him. He knows the tri. He knows how to be successful in it, despite losing some athleticism.

Where else could he be thinking. with roster space, familiarity, and best utilizing his knowledge. I seem to remember he worked with Lamar in preseason and was close to becoming an assistant

Pippen hasn't played substantial minutes in 4 years and he's 41. I don't believe any small forward or guard in NBA history has ever played any significant minutes at that age, and I wouldn't expect him to contribute anymore than McKie at this point.

A 41-year old Pippen playing for the Lakers? I don't see it happening. I'd like him as a coach (Kurt's replacement when he goes to Santa Clara maybe??) but not a player.

Stockton at 40 played 27 quality minutes per game (10.8ppg, 7.7 apg, 1.7 spg). Jordan at 39 played 37 mpg (dropping 20/6/4). Of course, you could point to Nique, who came back at 39 after a 1 year lay off and could only contribute 9 sorry minutes per game.

I don't think Pippen is desperate for money and he doesn't really have anything left to prove, so there isn't any reason for him to come back and be lousy. If he's even contemplating this, I would think that he'd be pretty certain he could still play at an NBA level. I'm also guessing Phil is behind this and probably asked Pippen if he thought he'd be good for one playoff run playing 20 mpg or so. The guy might have a little gas left in the tank....

Hopefully around 5 a half. If he can't do that, he has no business trying to comeback.

I'd take a 40 year old, hard working Pippen, over half the stiffs on this roster. Give me pippen anyday. We'll finally have another man on this roster to go along with Kobe, and all the kids he is surrounded by.

Let's keep between us, but I'd then trade Lamar for Gasol and call it a day ( we'd have enough facilitators with Kidd, Luke and Pip)
