Quote: | An NBA investigation into Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas’(notes) possession of guns inside the team’s locker room has been linked to a confrontation with teammate Javaris Crittenton(notes), multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The league’s ongoing probe hopes to determine whether Arenas had accessed any of his unloaded firearms while engaged in the dispute prior to a team practice at the Verizon Center on Dec. 21 in Washington. Tensions between Arenas and Crittenton escalated because of a festering disagreement between the two players, sources said. |

I find it hard to believe Crittenton would be involved in anything with a teammate requiring guns. |

Strange story? Yes.
On the other hand...dude was a Laker for one season. One. And as about as irrelevant as one could get for a Laker...despite the fact that Lg for some ridiculously absurd reason still has an infatuation with the guy. |

Not that you should go believing things the Post writes about almost anything, but that's not what it says.
Quote: | The duel in DC -- unprecedented in sports history -- was sparked when Crittenton became enraged at the veteran guard for refusing to make good on a gambling debt, a source said. |

It sounds worse in the ESPN version http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4787825
Quote: | Washington Wizards teammates Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other during a Christmas Eve locker room argument over a gambling debt, according to The New York Post. |
If that's true, then multi-game suspensions should follow. |

Sounds like things are going really well in Washington.
And the Wizards must be pinching themselves thinking they got to retain Gilbert Arenas at only $111 million! What a steal! _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Maybe the Lakers were aware of something like this possibly happening and that's why they got rid of him.
Something to consider |

If this turns out to be true I suspect they will be suspended for the remainder of the season. The NBA won't tolerate this kind of stuff.
Heard it here first, Arenas gets suspended rest of the year, Javaris as well, and Wiz get fined heavily. |

That was my initial reaction too, but reading it in the NY Post and proving it are two different things. That's why I think Stern will split the difference and impose a more immediate punishment of fewer games. |

Pretty much. I fail to see how the league could let them off with anything less. The league absolutely cannot tolerate gun violence or even the potential for it. They crossed a line.
On the other hand, Arenas may have gotten himself a ticket out of town. Oh wait...that's right, no GM is going to touch a gun toting maniac with bum knees who is owed $100 million. The Wiz might be able to void the contract though--there's probably something in there about trying to murder teammates voiding the contract. |

This is the absolute end to JCritt's domestic career. Until now I was fairly sure the Lakers (at the very least) would have given him a non-guaranteed contract, pending the results of a physical. |

Actually, as bizarre as it sounds, this is great news for the Wizards. Much like VladRad's snowboarding injury, the Wizards may have just had their Christmas wish granted and been given a magical opt out of that horrible contract. _________________ On pick and roll defense.
