Problem is Jr. is a bum. Canelo will stop him late because Jr. is too stupid to practice any defense and prefers to just continually eat punches and rely on his chin. Tactically and carefully, Jr. needs to go to the body early to slow down the great upper body movement of Canelo and hopefully wear him down later. However, Jr. will probably get drawn into a firefight at some point, and he will be missing wildly until Canelo drops him with a 1-2 (probably a hook/uppercut combo).

An unfortunate side-effect of Jr. scraping out a win is a Canelo/Chavez trilogy. I wouldn't be surprised to see a highly suspect decision in favor of Chavez (if he isn't KO'd) to set up this trilogy, which would make them both a ton of money (and enable Canelo/Oscar to bypass GGG once again).

O Lawd. Best lines I've heard in a while:

"Problem is Jr. is a bum"

"For some reason I can't get behind a ginger Mexican. It doesn't feel right"

Lol

By the way, I agree with both of you.

Chavez if he is in condition is no joke. Alvarez fights tight and usually tires in the late rounds. He also has a low punch count because he fights tight. Historically Chavez has started slow and come on in the late rounds. For the first time in his career Alvarez will not be the larger man in the ring. I will wait to see the weigh in but if Chavez is in shape and works the body early and often he has a chance in this fight. It all matters if he took his training camp seriously or not.

That being said I think he will not win a decision unless he drops Alvarez once or twice. Canelo is the anointed one Chavez will have to KO him or beat him decisively if it goes to the cards.

I marvel at JCC's 87-0 record. Money May, Rocky Marciano and King Kong ain't got nothing on him. Plus he was fighting anything they put in front of him.

JC Superstar was amazing.

He kept coming, didn't matter if he had to eat punches. Always remembered to give a mean left hook to the body.

It was a genuine shock when Frankie Randall beat him.

Almost Tysonesque.

Bye.

Damn. I just got suckered into it too!!!

Jr. is bigger but he's never been what they tried to make him and he's had shoddy performances recently. HBO marketing is genius. And Max is the best of his era.

Man if looks could kill, Canelo was shooting daggers out of his eyes at JCC Jr.

Yeah, he looks like he's approaching this as he repeatedly stated: personally. It's a great story line for sure. The kid that fought his way up from nothing and the child of privilege who was set up for greatness, had some success but taking it all for granted, not working as hard as he could to keep what he had. And both fighting to seal their legacy in the lore of the proud Mexican faithful.

How Canelo closes the distance and how good Jr can keep the champ at the end of his punches is going to be key early. It's going to eventually end up inside where they both like to do work. Just interesting to see if, as Freddie Roach suggests, Alvarez tires in the middle rounds.

Jr. is going to come in overweight... but it won't matter.

I think its going to be similar to Jr./Martinez

Jr. will rally late in the fight.. but too little too late.

Canelo is going to go for the body a lot.

Makes sense from Canelo's point of view but this version of Jr seems far more focused and better prepared and conditioned. Then again, Canelo is a superior fighter to that Martinez. I just wonder if Jr can make Alvarez pay a bigger price to get inside and then give as good as he gets. Chavez does have a good chin.

I'm just surprised that I'm actually intrigued in this fight at all. It looks like it could supply some entertaining rounds.

He looked like death though. On the other hand, Canelo looked ripped and happy. Let's see what happens tomorrow! Looking forward to the Lemieux fight too.

In Vegas for the scrap. (bleep) of people here. Both made weight and Jr. Looks cracked out but good. He's just in the tough spot. Can't handle light heavies and can barely make weight for 160. And just no motivation for 68.

This was a great fight for him to take but this should be easy work for Alvarez.

Wilder and Joshua will be a good fight.. but I think Joshua is more technical..and will out box him.

Was a really good fight. Heavies can make a comeback once Wilder and Joshua mix it up.

Kid is gonna be a problem.

That was no more than a sparring match for Canelo. He didn't sit between rounds. That's the way it's done when you're sparring. I had it same as the judges 120 108

GGG-Canelo ... about time

After seeing GGG's last fight, and seeing Canelo today, I think the fight is a lot closer then it would've been a year ago. Although I don't think Canelo has the power to KO GGG seeing as how he couldn't even get Chavez out of there. But Canelo is a better boxer and GGG tends to fade a bit after the mid rounds. Will be a great fight, can't wait.

All my boys who were drunkenly taking large bets on Canelo last night are backing out today GGG by destructive TKO in September setting up a rematch. Then, Jacobs can have his second boxing lesson. Finally, Charlo can get some too (if he really wants it) right before GGG retires.

I thought Amir Khan vs Canelo was going to be a close fight...well I was wrong...Canelo clearly handled that. I knew he would kill Chavez, never had a doubt. Canelo is in his prime, GGG is slowly coming out of his prime (fight w jacobs). I want to think that GGG still has it...but TBH...I think Canelo might take it.
