OUR PG issue will be addressed in free agency or trades. There's no PG available at #43 who can just come in and start for the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers.

So a #43 pick is used to shore up other issues - like bench, athleticism, defense for the second rotation, etc.

What I like.

1- He can play off the ball in a motion offense.
2- Doesn't need shots, wants to be a defensive specialist.

Fits in perfectly with what LA needs right now. Athletic, defensive minded role players.
so how will he score? the triangle = you have to be SMart enough, and have triple threat ability.
does he have those things? i dont know anything about his smarts. but can he pass well? can he shoot well? did they say he cuts off the ball well? ariza was always a great cutter off the rock. pre nba. is this guy?

if the answer to these questions are no and he's 100% defense and 0% offense. then he's worthless. unless we find ourselves a push it PG to run the bench.. cause the only way he will score is in transition.

You're right: John Wall was the clear pick. How could Mitch be such a dolt?

Ronny Turiaf. Similar talent this late in the draft.

sounds like what we got out of ron artest this year in the offs. all defense and darn near no offense on most nights.

he looks like a bootleg trevor ariza. no lie. lol

He does. Doesn't sopund like the sharpest card in the deck, but I guess one can give him the benefit of the doubt. IIRC, the lakers didn't work him out. I hate when that happens.

post - According Jay Bilas this guy plays well in a motion offense. Can't create his own shot but moves well off the ball.

If a guy can move off the ball in the Triangle ... he'll get looks.

Plus lets assume he gets a chance (which is not guaranteed for a 43rd pick) he will be playing on the 2nd unit. They'll run.

You're not drafting at 43 for a guy to score and create shots for you. Not when you have Kobe, Pau, Bynum, Artest, Lamar. You need guys that can defend, dive for loose balls, bring energy, board and make open shots.

Yes making 3 point shots is an issue for the Lakers but nothing they can do at 43 is about that. This guy has some talent and fits in what the Lakers showed in the past they could mold into an excellent role player. Maybe it doesn't happen this time with EBanks, but it's too early to dismiss his entire future.

Boy, the resemblance to Ariza is scary. maybe Ariza's father was playin' around?

Like I said, though, not the greatest shooter.

Oh, well. I'm sure the laker scouts saw something good there.

Wow! Thanks for the info, very cool.
I just watched an interview Ebanks did. Seems like a real intense dude. Soft spoken, defensive minded. I think he has the right attitude. He's a big kid, too. Lots of upside here. He will benefit tremendously from a season with the DFenders.

I check and it's true. This is so freaky. Same height, same number, same athleticism , same hairstyle, similar facial feature, same weight, and now same draft position too. FREAKY!

i don't know why more people aren't happy with this pick... and as if there's a pg that would be able to help right away anyway. i think ebanks is a great pick at 43.. he was predicted to go somewhere in the mid to early 20s. he may be able to provide that mad athleticism we need off the bench.. some energy, and more DEFENSE. people are complaining about his shot, but remember that he's a young kid and can maybe develop a shot someday. ariza couldnt shoot before he came to LA... shawn marion couldnt shoot, and really he still can't, but he still makes a difference.

Definitely needs to work on strength and leaping ability.

What?? You must haven't seen him play... He can jump out the gym.

Yeah I saw the highlights ... but the measurements a 24 inch no step vert and 32 inch running vert.

Maybe he's a game leaper.

NBA Comparison: Corey Brewer

Strengths: Long and lean small forward possessing a 'smooth' game ... His wingspan is incredible and he seemingly gets his paws on every ball ... Prolific rebounder (8.5 RPG). Particularly innate offensive rebounder (3 per game) ... Grabs boards outside of his area. Quick off his feet and anticipates caroms extremely well. Breaks for the ball before anyone else on the court ... High percentage shooter, rarely takes a bad shot (47%) ... Very soft touch around the basket. Crafty with a variety of release points ... Knows how to get shots off in the paint ... Exhibits excellent body control ... Shows promise with his mid-range jumper ... Gets good elevation and has picturesque shooting mechanics ... Appears comfortable at the free throw stripe where he shoots 74% ... Will occasionally take his game into the post and shoot over smaller defenders ... Thrives in transition as he runs the floor very well and takes long, loping strides ... Makes smart decisions with the ball in his hands ... Good passer averaging 2.7 assists per game ... Has the ability to see over the defense and find cutters ... Versatile defender with the ability to guard multiple positions ... Often matches up with the opponent's top perimeter threat ... Moves his feet pretty well for 6-9, and his length can bail him out if he's beaten off the bounce ... Long arms and quick hands net him a steal per contest ... Has a fire in his eyes at the defensive side, something very rare.

Weaknesses: It's hard to say whether he's gotten less aggressive or more unselfish ... There are games where he simply doesn't look at the basket ... Seems lost offensively at the moment- as if he's unsure what his game is ... His field goal attempts per game have gone up from 8 to 10, but most of his shots come as a result of offensive rebounds or broken plays ... Shot mid-range jumpers regularly last season, but appears hesitant as a sophomore ... Lacks any range whatsoever, shooting 13% from three as a freshman and 11% this season ... Needs to enhance this dimension of his game to keep opponents off balance ... His ball handling is a work in progress. Not quick with the ball in his hands and very right hand dominant ... Has difficulty beating defenders off the dribble, and quite frankly, rarely tries to ... Lack of strength is a major concern as he gets knocked off balance easily ... While he has a great looking stroke at the FT line, he rarely get there. Shoots 4 free throws per game ... Does not possess an explosive burst or leaping ability ... Would certainly benefit from adding upper and lower body muscle ... Has difficulty finishing through contact. Cannot hold up defensively against stronger college 4's ... Was suspended for the first three games of the 09-10 season for undisclosed reasons.

He moves off the ball very well. Actually one of his strengths.

Outside shooting is bad, like Ariza coming out of UCLA.

He is a better passer than credited. WVU runs a lot of back door cuts similar to the princeton offense and I've seen him thread some nice passes though he is often on the receiving end.

One more thing.

Since 2005 - Lakers have been consistently trying to find players with the following description.

Athletic.
Long Wingspan.
Lanky (Thin).

Think Bynum in 2005, Ariza in 2007.

I think if EBanks has the work ethic and focus Drew and Trevor had/have at the same age, he will turn out to be a good pick.

It's all about how much he works now IMO. Because the Lakers love to give guys like this a chance and develop them. Ever since Bynum panned out for them.

Don't agree at all. Brewer is much more perimeter oriented.
