This will disappoint many Celtics fans that coveted him, which makes his acquisition even sweeter. Here are some of their quotes on Barns:
Quote:
Barnes is one of those players that if your team was playing his team, you hate him but if he's on your team you love him.Matt Barnes is a pest. Just ask Garnett and Pierce. He would fit our system perfectly. He plays solid D and still has the ability to score. I could see him being our new 'Posey' and he's only 30 years old.

Quote:
We NEED DEFENSE.

Thats a period at the end of my Subject.

We need an upgrade from Tony Allen… Who was first and foremost a great defender. And a liability on the offensive end.

Barnes is just as good on Defense, taking into account that he can rebound very good for a 3 on the defensive boards….

AND HE CAN SPREAD THE FLOOR OFFENSIVELY BY HITTING SPOT-UP THREES!!!

We need BARNES BADLY….. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY…… HE NEEDS US…

Barnes’ career needs some green in its life.

Quote:
Barnes belongs in Boston

Barnes will make a fan out of you…

He would fit and mesh with our team…. He has a flare of attitude like Garnett and sticks behind his team…

He plays hard tough nose DEFENSE and doesn’t let anyone man-handle him on the floor….

He’s what BOSTON LIKES TO SEE…. Tough and dirty…. Doing dirty work is what we were mising…..

Barnes is the type of player that no one on the other team likes, but his team loves his energy and effort!!!!

Quote:
barnes

is perfect for boston

he can defend lebron, kobe, and wade while resting paul and kg

Quote:
He can GUARD the Semi-GREATS fine.

Barnes can guard Kobe, Wade, and Lebron at a decent level.

When Ray and Pierce come out…. That’s what we need. A decent defender who can spread the floor for A BACK-UP!!!

No one is asking him to start at either the 2-3-or-4….. WHY WOULD YOU COMPARE BARNES TO FUTURE HALL OF FAMERS?!?!?!?!?!

He is a back-up for the Celtics who could start on any other team….

And he can hit the three in transition and spot-up threes in the half-court at an above average level…. A pretty good level actually…. If you watch the film.

He’s taller than most 2 or threes that guard him and quicker than all 4’s who guard him.

Barnes is better than YOU expect…. And if we sign him…. You’ll be the first to get on his jock-strap when you see what he’s capable of with decent team-mates around him….

Barnes wants to play on a TEAM…. Not these run-n-gun rosters that play pick-and-roll with two players or just fastbreak and chuck up shots.

My favorite reaction came from this one poster on RealGM:

"(bleep) why the **** is no one coming here."

Haha, classic.

I really like this one too:
Quote:
wow this is terrible

the lakers aren't supposed to be tough

but now they have artest and barnes

i hate the lakers, but it was easy when they were soft and silly like in 2008
Now they are bullies taking our lunch. we need sheed to come back, we need a player like barnes. we need to beat them in the finals.

The Lakers are unfortunately having a solid offseason. If they do indeed have signed Barnes, he is a solid defensive pickup for him and they immediately become more physical. They already picked up Blake at PG, who is very solid and a good 3pt shooter, and Theo Ratliff who can come off the bench and provide some minutes in the low block.

Ainge needs to step it up and get us some good pickups.

if this is such an inconsequential signing - then why has Barnes constantly been labeled as the "most coveted free agent left" after, of course, all the superstars made their decisions.

this is very bad news to me - Lakers have now gotten the backup point guard they needed, plus added two decent front court players for depth - and why is it that they have the $$$$ to sign Barnes for more than the vet min and we don't ??

i almost don't want to see the Lakers win another title (and tie us) as much as i do want to see the Celts win #18.

........... and btw, i still consider the outcome of game 7 as illegitimate - that banner was stolen from us. 21 - 6.

Celtics is never tough. Just punch of dumbass players dance their mouth around like (bleep)!

In 2008, cuz Pau just first taste the feel of a FINAL and has less experience with good players and with new teammates. Our team is totally NEW for championship run (except Kobe and Fisher, Odom rarely show up anyway). We didn't even have HOME-COURT. So that is why we lose.

Celtics will never beat us again.
