Yes, her twin brother.

Nice. Only the first ep and already we're in the Sopranos "Meadow F'ing her cousin." Territory.

The tagline to Game of Thrones should be Swords, Boobs & Doggystyle...

Was one of the wanderers wearing the head of one of the kids they killed?

What a great first episode, can't wait for next week. The only thing I really missed was seeing Jon Snow drunk at that party

I also wasn't entirely thrilled with the Catelyn character for a couple of reasons:
- In the book Ned is completely against becoming the Hand and Catelyn pressures him for political reasons. We didn't see that at all (and the bedchamber scene in particular was changed quite a bit).
- I didn't see any hostility beteween her and Jon Snow that I expected.
- In general she appears much more timid when I was expecting someone shrewd.

Yep. In the first scene with those two they were discussing if the recently dead Hand of the King (Jon Arryn) had revealed their secret and Jaime said that if he had revealed it their heads would be on spikes by now.

In the book they were called "others" or "white walkers" and were kind of a white, spectral looking ice warrior. They definitely changed it up from the book, as the "Walker" who decapitated Gared (and threw his head down) looked to be anything but white or made of ice. The dead little girl that came back (with the blue-blue eyes) was a "wight". Kind of a zombie under the control of the White Walkers.
That scene was actually from the prologue in the book and that part of the story isn't revisited until much later.

HBO has a viewers guide in case some of the locations or names and how they are related to each other gets confusing.
http://viewers-guide.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/#
The map is interesting but click the "guide to houses" tab for the people.
Probably good for the first 2 or 3 episodes but not really necessary.

I read on another forum that there is some significance about the deer killing the direwolf in the book. Anyone know what it is?

Direwolf is the sigil of House Stark
Stag is the sigil of House Baratheon

Wow! pretty epic. looks like I got a new show.
Never read the book, so I didn't understand its significance of it until i read up about it. (adult themed fantasy)

The direwolf is the sigil of House Stark, the stag is the sigil of House Baratheon.
If the animals killed each other it could foretell those two houses having conflict in the future but Ned and King Robert are best friends so I don't see that having significance. The Queen's family (Lannister, sigil is Lion) on the other hand.... pretty apparent even from episode 1 that the Lannisters are a sinister, plotting bunch.

I was disappointed in Catelyn as well. I'm not sure why they swapped Catelyn and Ned's stances on accepting the Hand job (pause).

I think in the book that Lady Cat liked the idea of her daughter getting married off to the prince and eventually becoming Queen. Then when she received the letter from her sister Lysa warning her that the Lannisters had killed Jon Arryn she kind of changed her mind (additionally, she probably got a whiff of what a bratty little jerk (Joffrey) her daughter would have to marry). In a TV show it is harder to show the reasons for a character changing their mind 180 degrees.

I didn't know this but the show and a bunch of other HBO series can be viewed on hbogo.com.

You have to be subscriber to Comcast or DirecTV to use this site though.

SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS

I really didn't like the addition of the scene where Jaime brings in several more whores for Tyrion. In the books a major part of the character development was how Tyrion ultimately turns against his own family, and a big reason why is the constant disapproval of his family that he visits whores... completely out of character for Jaime to offer him 3 more whores in this scene IMO.

She was the queen in 300 too. We know she's not adverse to showing some (bleep)-ays.

I liked the added Tyrion whorehouse scene. Jaime and Tyrion were always very close (Jaime was probably the only family member who accepted Tyrion other than an uncle who's name I forget). It was his father Tywin who didn't approve of Tyrion's whoring. Cersei was just embarrassed to have a dwarf for a brother. The scene was not out of character IMO.

Season 2 is going to be difficult to cast. I thought they did a tremendous job casting the existing characters but how the hell do you find an actress for [spoiler] Brienne? Or Rorge and Biter? Rorge didn't even have a nose and Biter is like nothing human.

Just saw the episode two preview. This thing is moving fast. That's a lot of book to fit into 10 episodes. I bet they go to 12 or even 14 episodes for the next two seasons.

So many great characters in this series.

That's not true!
There were at least 4-5 more whores...

A great sophomore episode. Loved the lesbian-esque scene... and how the blonde queen is about the scheme something... I guess we'll find out later.

I usually don't like kid scenes but they were cast nicely and pulled off the mini drama quiet nicely. I already hate that puny blonde prince.
