And much love to Phil for all the great memories he helped create for the Lakeshow. I'll never forget that crazy 7th game WCF 4th quarter comeback against the Blazers! Just one among many others. Live long and well Mr. Phil Jackson! Thank you! |

Bench needs to be rebuilt.
Because of bench was such a weak spot, the starters played more minutes than necessary. With us trying for the 4th NBA Finals, this hurt us longer as the season rolled on. The Mavs took this weakness and was able to exploit us on it. Somebody said their bench outscored us 40 points in one of these games, that is pretty sad. |

Agreed. Not a big poster, but I read your recaps religiously after each game. Thanks for another great year!

Must give credit to Mavs. They played exceptionally well. If they keep it up, they'll have quite a run.
Lakers on the other hand.... Should at least have class to go out properly. If you loose, you loose. Go home, make your conclusions, work harder for the next year and then pay back with a good game. Lamar and Drew deserve a major ..... I don't even have a word for it. I'm so disgusted at their idiotic fouls. _________________ .

Thanks for all your writing this season DB.
In a rollercoaster year, your writing has been consistently excellent, much more than I can say about the team's performance.
No matter how well or how poorly the team was playing- you always came through.
Thanks again for a lot of enjoyable reading. |

Thanks DB, after reading this, the season really is over.
The 3-point shooting has been a problem all year, but this series highlighted it and then some. Pau wasn't doing himself any favors out there, but his reaction to tough doubles is to kick the ball out, and if he's kicking it out to missed shots he becomes real easy to defend.
I gotta to imagine the Fisher era ends here. An old Kobe next to an older Fish is no longer a champion backcourt. We need an upgrade in speed, and maybe even a player who can finally run the offense. The days of Kobe running the show and being the show at the same time might be done as well.
I also think it's time to move Ron to the bench. There's still room on the team for a strong armed defensive stopper, but the starting lineup needs floor spacing, or else a team full of big post options becomes worthless (which is exactly what they were in this series). It took a somewhat lucky shooting streak from Ariza and then Artest to repeat, and it's not something we should roll the dice on again.
The season ends for the players today, but just begins for Mitch. Here's hoping he makes the right moves. _________________ *Warning: The preceding post may have contained sarcasm and/or irony.

Thanks DB. You are more consistent than a lot of our players in W or L.
The management won't say it now but roster change will be inevitable.
This team needs a three point killer{s} to allow Kobe and one or two other post players to be dominant. It will be interesting to see who will leave and who will come. And then there is the search for a new coach.
LGers will be entertained once more in the off-season. This time, without a celebration. _________________ Kobe's Top 5 Dunks, 81 points, MJ last gm @Staples |

A championship team plays to win, always.
DB - Thank you for your great great great work - it is great appreciated
As Bruce Lee stated (paraphrased with a NBA twist) and applies to most of the Lakers on Sunday
* You disrespected the NBA
* You disrespected the L.A. Lakers
* You disrespected Phil Jackson
As Coach Dave Smith says, you can only implement the defensive strategy since nobody teaches NBA players. Since there are only three ways to defend P&R, it is up to the players to execute the plan. The coach's responsibility is when to take out players when they are not executing.
Only "silver lining" were the words shared between Phil and Kobe that shared that it would have been very hard to lose in The Finals on a tip-in shot (probably given up by LO trying to look good for his reality show).
It is very surprising that the infamous T.J. Simers had the most rational words that goes "Lakers Need a Change of Attitude, Not Talent." Of course we get the irrational words of Magic that the club chould be blown up - hmm, meaning we should get less talented players on the team (especially in the Bigs - nope).
As Kobe highlighted in his press conference, the Lakers were actually good at defending the 3s.
The Lakers had playedagainst the Mavs with great success since it is not like they were going against the Blazers.
If BShaw is the next coach, that appears to be the logical choice because of the structure of the team, Shannon probably would be more successful in a system that doesn't require as much basketball IQ while depending more on athletic skills (like the Hawks).
Steve Blake appears to be the right kind of PG for the Lakers while needing more time to know when and where to expect his shots - remembering that it takes more than one season to be comfortable enough to not "think" about the Triangle.
Matt Barnes is a good players who plays defense well. His offense will pick up once he knows the system better and when the offense is actually being executed.
Trades - If the absurd trade of Drew/LO for Superman happens, how will Pau take it as the third option? Pau will become even more a PF/SF playing at the high post. This will force RonRon to play more on the perimeter limiting his assets of being a powerful SF. Will BShaw be able to successfully mesh the egs of Kobe, Superman, Pau, RonRon and others?!?!?
Maybe the two rookies will be able to provide what the Lakers need, with a few tweeks |

Hard to sink in that our season is really over.
Our games in this Mavs series was wierd. Nothing went right for the Lakers. Nobody seemed to play his hearts out, not even Phil, not even Kobe.
Just regroup, recharged and regain the championship. |

Just like to say thank you for the kind words, guys.
Seems like the last couple years have been difficult for me physically. Going from a desk job to pounding on the computer for the whole night all season has had some carpal tunnel going on. It was especially noticeable on back to backs or those stretches where we have several games. I am going to work on changing up some things to try to improve that, so no worries.
Also, I think now we can focus a little more on improving LG. So that will be a goal with the offseason. |
