Series clinching games:

2011- Blowout loss to Mavs

2008- Blowout loss to Celtics

2007- Blowout loss to Suns

2006- Blowout loss to Suns

2004- Blowout loss to Pistons

2003- Blowout loss to Spurs

And by blowouts, I mean getting straight up dominated in these series clinching games

When we lose series, we lose [Pause] Big.

Give the lakers the chance to close a series, even on the road, and they will step on your throats.

However, bully the lakers into an elimination game, and they will notoriously quit.

At least they were all over by the 4th quarter.

I'd hate to be eliminated like the Celtics were last season. What a way to lose.

As in, no resistance at all. They'll just lay their a*s in there and watch it get pounded to stupor

2003&2006 have nothnig to do with the Kobe gasol era.

we played 6 elinination games during this era, 4 at stapels, 2 on the road.

we lost big in boston and dallas but at staples we beat houston, and boston (3 times, 2008 game 5, 2010 game 6 and 7).

we are not getting blowout on our floor, but on the road some players (not kobe) just quit.

... and in a couple of those games kobe was off to a hot start while his teammates played miserably right from the tipoff.

you can really read a lot into this. it seems teams coached by phil dont play hard or fight until the end. once you've cracked them, there'll be no resistance at all. and in most of these games (except the phoenix ones and partly the celtics disaster) we were stacked with veterans, proven champions etc...

the mavs game felt a lot lik the spurs game. i was waiting for kobe and fish to break out in tears sitting on the bench, but i guess they saw it coming at some earlier point....

sad!

Then again, you are not counting in the games like G6 of finals last season which for Lakers was an elimination game. We won, but the starting point was the same. I wonder what is our record of elimination games or even if we have had more than a few of those.

You can't really say that. At least Kobe-Shaq team had several good comeback playoff games.

they had, they had.
but the point is... if this team gets eliminated, they get blown out and there'll be no fight.

i know they had several elimination games which they succeeded. you can even count the kings (00? and '02), the blazers game 7 etc in, but game 5s (in a best of 5 series) and game 7s are a lot different than elimination games when you are trailing in the series...

it's not about that you lose, its about HOW you lose...

You forgot that 2013 Spurs series where Dwight and Pau just mailed it in for the whole series. Had never seen anything like that before.

Like they did in game 6 of the finals in 2010?

Are you serious? That team was awful. Even with a healthy Kobe doing great things, they struggled to earn a playoff spot. It was a combination of Utah folding at the end and the league just pushing the Lakers into the spot. I'll never forget the NBA playoffs commercials with Lakers players dancing all over in it even though the percentages said the Lakers were almost sure to miss the playoffs. It was like they knew something we didn't The Lakers were just overmatched in that series. That Spurs team ended up winning it all and the Lakers didn't have a single healthy player that wasn't a D Leaguer. I can't blame Pau or Dwight at all for that one.
