Well, I don't watch AOS ... don't watch much TV save for Laker basketball so, I hope I'm not playing catch up for too long.

^ Without giving away anything, the reason they are where they are to start the movie is because Agent Coulson located the person & item there and called Maria Hill to send the Avengers.

That follows the comic books more than you'd think.

Just watched the movie in iMax. Epic. I don't know why people are bad mouthing it, except maybe that it can't match how awesome it was to see the first Avengers movie because that one was the first super hero crossover. The action is crazy in this one, and they gave a reason for Hawkeye to exist on a team of super humans.

I think my expectations were too high.

SPOILERS

After watching it a few more times, I'm sure I'll like it even better. I still give it a 7.5/10. My biggest complaint is how similar is was to Avengers.
-Avengers get together putting aside their disagreements to go after an infinity stone.
-Villain has alien/robot army.
-Hulk gets out of control then rejoins the team to eventually be the one to take down the big baddie with almost no effort.
-Iron Man has plan to save the day which risks him dying.

I liked Loki a lot better than Ultron too.

And as much as I liked Phase 1 and The Avengers, I'm glad that the Russo's are taking over for Civil War and the Infinity War. I don't know if Joss is burnt out or what but some of the magic just wasn't there this time.

These movies are like the TV procedurals. You only get the juicy bits at the start(Iron Man), in the middle(Avengers), and at the end(Infinity War), in other words, the season premiere, the midseason finale, and the season finale, everything in between is just filler created solely to tease you, string you along and get your money. There was no point to Iron Man 2/3, Winter Solider, Thor 2, and AoU, all filler. If they had handled it right, there would have been a buildup to Ultron. Stark and Banner are building Ultron? Why not mention it in one of the solo movies? Because the plan was always Thanos, and all these movies are just filler until then.

With all that said, I enjoyed the movie. I liked Ultron more than I liked Loki(in Avengers). I don't know much of anything about Ultron from the comics, but from watching the movie, I assume he's supposed to be little bit of a brat? He was definitely a brat in the movie, a well spoken brat that sounds like Raymond Reddington, but a brat nevertheless. If you ignore the fact that it's a filler movie, it was on the same level as Avengers. It was basically the same movie.

I say this is the 4th quality Marvel movie. They are 4/11.

Still gotta wait til Sunday to watch this. I envy some of you. Had a chance to watch it last night with some buddies, but I would have felt awful knowing I wasn't watching with my kids.

Kinda missed the Promenade IMAX and didn't feel like driving so far north to go to Universal CityWalk to see this one. Irvine's IMAX is great save for lack of reserved seating and probably the least comfortable seats in the prime seating areas. Ass hurt like hell and who brings a 6 month old to a loud movie? That said, this wasn't Avengers 1 level but it was solid.

So is Thanos the most powerful superhero in the universe, or is it Galactus, or is it someone else?

Just never really felt threatened by Ultron. Having the Twins always around doing his dirty work just cheapened everything for me. Then the one time we actually see him in a prolonged fight he got beat by Ironman pretty easily.

Hulk was a better villain.

Cap 2's Widow. Dunno WTH Wheedon was doing with her in Avengers 2.

Well she was pregnant so that may have limited what they could do with her some.

It's weird how Avengers 1 to me was just boring with no real standout scenes (action or otherwise) but it wasn't a bad movie and I found this second one far more enjoyable if a little bit lacking in the magic department.

Hopefully because they want to make a proper Hulk movie and with Betty Ross in tow. Jennifer Connelly may be too old now, but it'd be funny to have husband Vision have to see wife playing Ross mack out with another guy in the same room.

Otherwise, it's mostly because Bruce doesn't want to hurt Black Widow and knows there's no future for the two.

The movie gets a 7.5, very underwhelming and anti-clamatic.

Spoiler:

They spent way too much time and energy doing safety work evacuating people all the time. Want to see them fight an enemy, people not getting killed with mass destruction seems silly.

Ultron is so sappy. I expected him to be very cruel and evil.

With all that vibranium, you would think first thing to do is build an indestructibal body. Since Vision got stolen, plan B is just make an armor out of it.

The ending should be entire Avengers fighting an epic battle against a virtually indestructible foe, with Thor and Hulk going all out. But instead such a been-there-done-that ending.

Initial thoughts.

8 / 10
**** Possible Spoliers ahead****

I will need a few repeat viewings. The pacing was fairly quick and there were some great action bits. But it all felt pretty similar to the first one. Instead of Hulk vs Thor, it was Hulk vs Ironman in the HulkBuster suit. Then we get another army of bots/aliens for the team to dispatch.

I was already not digging the fact that Pym had NO hand in the creation of Ultron... and I feel like they could have set that up a lot better.
We should have seen Ultron bots in place of the Iron Legion and then have him turn evil.

The relationship between Banner and Natasha felt a bit forced and was a little awkward. The character death at the end was unnecessary and didn't have as much weight as it probably intended to because he never really got that established to begin with.

Liked that they gave Hawkeye more to do and that we finally got to see Rhodey in action working with Fury. I liked Vision and am glad he is part of the team... but his look needs to be toned down a bit.

Kang the Conqueror would have been a better villain. Would have eliminated the need for another army of enemies and allowed the team to try and work together to defeat a super powered foe.

Basically he still doesn't trust himself especially what happened in Wakanda against Iron Man. But short answer, setting up events in Captain America 3: Civil War. Won't go into detail because it may be spoiler, unless you've read the book.
