Before everyone starts to skewer me about being optimistic on 2nd-rounders, let me state that I do not have any opinion of Mr. Majok at all and just thought it would be cool to share some more info about him than we originally had:

http://middletownpress.com/articles/2011/06/24/sports/doc4e0564e2dd144952023875.txt?viewmode=2

Apparently he might be a 3 instead of a short 4 or 5. Also a lot of this is via his agent but there might be some credibility to his statements as the Lakers did ultimately draft him. Time will tell I suppose.

Oh yes, I see lots of shades of Kevin Durant with a fusion of Rudy Gay and Serge Ibaka there. This is GREAT!

I watched some clips of him on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEFpsKoYby0). If he is the guy I think he is, he is very skilled for a 6'11" player. He appears to have excellent touch. UConn didnt call him one of their prize recruits for no reason. Of course, many players look great in drills and cant translate that to a game. In other words, he passes the eye ball test.

All we could do is hope.

He's pretty damn agile for a 6-11. I don't suppose LA had the intention of looking for a LO type player.

I can see him developing as long as he can move laterally in defense at the 3 spot. Just watching him in these clip from youtube you can see that he is not a center. But if he can play sf and play defense, Mitch (maybe more Lester) might have found a gem. Just like Gasol is not really a center or Dirk really a center. A 6'10" sf like Lamar when he first got in the NBA.

Does kind look like him. Hopefully he turns out to be more of a Durant clone that Ebanks was an Ariza clone.

I will be happy for a defensive specialist that can fill the lane and hit open shot ala Micheal COOOPEERRRR.

It would be funny if this kid was so raw that he actually tries to bank all his jumpers, instead of that being a drill. Good find though.

The only thing I got out of that "highlight" video was that there is a gym somewhere in the world that needs major renovations. I mean, it looked like the floors were made out of plastic.

Ater Majok looks like a 50 year old man practicing for his rec league game. His moves are slow as hell, his foot speed is, well shall we say, lacking, and he just seems awkward. Seems like a complete waste of a pick, even for the 2nd round.

Rumors on the internets says that Jim Buss feels that AJ Majok is supposed to fill the Odom void after we dealt him.

My concern about Ater Majok is that the Mavs, Spurs or Thunder might sign Bobo Fett as a counter-measure.

Majok is a stellar athlete with range.
-Jim Calhoun

http://blogs.courant.com/uconn_mens_basketball/2009/10/jim-calhoun-on-ater-majok.html

“They played him at the 3 position,” said his agent, Mike Lelchitski. “He’s been working to transition to playing the 3. He had a really tough time in college playing the 4 and 5. He’s tall, but that’s not naturally his position. He was able to really turn some heads and did a lot of things people never saw and didn’t expect. He ran the court and altered shots, but also played great perimeter defense, locked down some of the great international players, and shot the ball extremely well from 3.”

Most soccer players have light feet. And his volley ball career should help him get enough lift to alter some shots. Plays like a 3/4 defends the 4/5. Can bang down low or step out and hit the 3. We need to bring Kareem or Hakeem in to work with this kid in the post asap.
