I work at a rehab and I've dealt with kids who come in hopped up on this stuff.
My basic understanding of "Bath salts" is that they are labeled as such so they can be sold at gas stations and not be under the FDA. By the time the FDA amends the laws, they change their formula a little bit and the process starts all over again.
Still, this type of reaction is common enough (psychosis not necessarily chewing someone's face off). I had a kid who flipped out last year after we took them in. I ended up having to call the Men in white coats to bring them into the local hospital who had no idea what to do with it. They were convinced that I had killed their mother because they told me off earlier in the day and then spent the rest of the day staring at me in a smoldering rage.
The scary part about that kind of case ("Super Coke") is that it stays in the system a long time.
