Quote: | Kupchak on Jamison: Nothing is imminent
Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak put his phone down long enough to see his team's 33-point halftime deficit en route to a 106-56 loss to the Miami Heat in the Las Vegas summer league Monday before dialing and texting away for most of the second half.
Kupchak was far less concerned with the Lakers' summer league squad suffering its second drubbing in the last four days by more than 40 points than he was with getting beat on the free agency front as he tries to round out the roster for next season.
The rumor mill was stirring with the Charlotte Observer reporting that free agent forward Antawn Jamison had chosen to play for the purple and gold over his hometown Bobcats.
Kupchak acknowledged Jamison is a player the team was interested in but said nothing was imminent when reached for comment at halftime.
"We're not about to do anything," Kupchak told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "I would know." |

Quote: | Report: Antawn Jamison will sign with Los Angeles Lakers
Free-agent forward Antawn Jamison will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, The Charlotte Observer’s Rick Bonnell reported Monday night. Jamison had drawn interest from the Charlotte Bobcats, the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors. From Bonnell’s report:
The Bobcats were recruiting free agent Jamison as both a power forward and a veteran mentor to a young team. Jamison was torn between the chance to play for his hometown team or to pursue a championship with what figures to be his last NBA contract. |

The Lakers were looking to finally get in the win column in their third game of the NBA Summer League, but those dreams quickly fell to the wayside when they took on the Miami Heat on Monday night. After losing to the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles didn’t find much luck against Miami either. |

Lakers need to get their butt moving, cause all the contenders have gotten even better, everyone is being signed, there will be NO bench if they do not make 2 or 3 moves. I hear Courtney Lee in sign & trade rumor but doubtful & Jamison rumor (not sold until it actually happens).
If they get Dwight, please include Jason Richardson, Turkaglue you can keep!!!
Com'on Jimmy & Mitch, now's not a good time to act like your on vacation while others are getting the left overs!!!
Grant Hill is now gone, don't want Jermaine O'Neal.
If we don't improve that sad bench we won't make it past the first round!!!

O'neal will be be 10 times better than Murphy last year!!! At least he has some post moves and an inside presence. Murphy had nothing to offer and I can count on one hand how many games he had an impact in all of last year |

I'm sorry but are you under the completely misguided assumption that the Lakers aren't busy trying to land quality players? All these reports have escaped your notice?
The problem isn't lack of effort. It's lack of money in comparison to what other teams can pay. The Clippers, for example, still had their 1.9 million bi-annual exception, which we don't have, in addition to their mini mid level. We have a mini-mid level and veteran's minimum contracts to offer. |

That doesn't exclude trading anyone on the bench, Blake & Ebanks, sign & trade Jordan Hill although I would like to see him remain, but Blake's worth is probably worth near nothing, 4 years is enough from this guy. The way were going they'll be begging Barnes to resign??? |
