I don't believe anything til it happens! I mean dam,Grant hill chose the slippers over us... Yes I said slippers... Anyway.... If he let the Lakers know that he's all in and they don't get him today...... Somebody's head should roll! Unfortunately that would need to be Mr. Kupchak!

Hennigan needs to sign off on this trade so that we can all move on... geeze!! U'd think Orlando would want to get rid of this Dwight cloud that has been hanging over them |

Thanks Eric.
Still would seem that we need to get a 3rd team involved who wants Bynum. for whatever reason Hennigan wants no part of Drew. There has to be quite a few teams who want Drew, but perhaps only a few that Drew would want to go to and extend with immediately.
There's still a lot to be negotiated here it would seem. I don't think we are close to landing him in terms of days/time wait. I still see this dragging for a while. But certainly we are in position where the Nets were for about 6 months. If Dwight's option now is Lakers, you better believe the Lakers will be the one that he is going to push for. And that makes a difference. I think LA is in the fore front, but we still need a 3rd team and we need Hennigan to be willing to do deal before the season. I hope his owners have told him that they are not interested in this going into next season. |

Eric,
Rudolph mentioned nothing about an extension. He only said that Dwight is committed to resigning after the season is over. _________________ I Recommend VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/ |

Hennigan a young GM and is clearly afraid to pull the trigger. Otherwise, he would have done the deal with Houston, which would have netted the Magic more assets than they can now get from Cleveland or the Lakers. Plus, Houston was prepared to take back more bad contracts than Cleveland is likely willing to take back. Houston no longer has that same level of flexibility ... and won't even further once Asik is with the team.
Everyone keeps talking about how the Magic are in no rush, and are willing to wait until September, if need be, to get a deal done. If that's the case, they're morons, because the Lakers will get to a point where they need to move on and will extend Andrew. The Magic already blew a chunk of the options they could have gotten from Houston in terms of dumping more long term contracts, because Houston had to move on (nevermind how good their young players look in SPL). The longer they wait, the more options & benefits will shrink up.
I don't believe the Lakers are willing to wait until September, that's for certain. We have a loaded roster as is and we can't sit around and wait until the last minute to fill out the rest of it, because eventually the cheap talent we can still land will sign elsewhere ... including Jordan Hill.

I do think the Lakers will wait until September if it means getting Howard. They've been in this for almost a year even when they weren't front runners or sure Dwight would stay. Now Dwight's given that green light and they pull out because Dwight's GM ain't playing ball? I doubt it. Especially since they know they are dealing with a rookie GM who wants to wait, wait, and wait some more to make sure it's the right deal. Mitch worked on the Gasol deal for a year. He is arguably the most patient GM in the league.
Bynum pretty much has to know now that he's part of a 3-way trade to get Howard and plan B is to re-sign him to an extension. I have my doubts Drew even wants to stay with the Lakers after all of this. Especially with word coming out that he's interested in being a Cav next to Irving and being coached by Byron Scott. |

Then they risk dealing with Bynum and his agent in the offseason if the Howard trade doesn't happen. Bynum and his agent won't wait until September for an answer from Mitch on an extension. _________________ I Recommend VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/ |

IIRC last time around, they went to the last week, right before the season began. I don't think Drew takes this stuff personally, although his agent is another story.
I don't see the Lakers pulling out of a trade they've been pursuing for over a year now just because they fear Bynum's agent will act out if instead of August, an extension is done in September. I think they've made it clear Bynum is getting a max extension offer. And it will happen before the season. If not August, then September. I'll be shocked if Drew acts out over a month's difference. But you never know with his agent. |

Hennigan doesn't want to be flogged by the league owners and other GM's for making the NBA a one team league. I guess he'd rather let the Heat gather more rings across town making his Florida team slip into mediocrity.... _________________ Mama, There Goes That Mamba. |

1) Last time around, Drew suffered a major injury and missed the playoffs. He wasn't even an all-star. He and his agent were in no position to demand anything. That's not the case right now.
2) The Lakers' don't want Bynum's agent asking for 5 years and a no-trade clause at the end of the season either. And quite frankly, the Dwight Howard trade scenario isn't all that simple. The Magic want picks, prospects, and want to unload bad contracts. The Lakers have no picks and no cap room. And waiting until September isn't going to give them any. _________________ I Recommend VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/ |
