The search for a free agent shooting guard continues for the Los Angeles Lakers with the team in need of a viable option off the bench behind Kobe Bryant. There are still some options available at this position in free agency, but only a few that might be willing to take the veteran’s minimum that the Lakers are likely to offer.
Perhaps one of the best remaining options for the Lakers is Jodie Meeks. According to Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld.com, the Lakers are currently in talks with Meeks as of July 26:
“
"The Los Angeles Lakers continue to express interest in Jodie Meeks, according to source. No deal is imminent, but the two sides are talking."
Of the options left available at shooting guard in free agency for the Lakers, Meeks is arguably one of the most appealing. At 24-years-old, 25 in August, the Lakers would be able to go younger with Meeks rather than signing a veteran guard over 30 to a one-year deal. |
This would be a beautiful thing. Best possible option left at this point. DO IT MITCHELL!!!!! JUST USE THE DAMN MINI MLE AT THIS POINT!!!!!!! |
No, the guy is another Kapono and he doesn't deserve the MMLE |
How are the two remotely similar players? Meeks is athletic, and he's a good defender. Kapono was a pure shooter. |

GS will match any offer for Rush. There's no point in trying unless we actually have a chance to get him. _________________ I Recommend VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/ |

His opp PER last year was 10.7. Which was the best figure of anybody other than Iggy on Philly (a very good defensive team) last season. And it's not a small sample size fluke--Meeks played 24.9 mpg.
He doesn't get a ton of steals, but he's a fundamentally sound defender and a good outside shooter. Which would seem to be the two main skills we need from our backup SG. Kapono, by comparison, was an abysmal defender. |

For various reasons such as age, position, overall talent etc., Meeks is at the top of my list of free agent players still available that the Lakers have a reasonable chance at.... _________________ Rule = win titles
