London Olympics: Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol have Kodak moment

On the best days, here's how Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol interact. They high-five each other. They rub each other's heads. They express appreciation for their complementary styles.

On the worst days, here's how Bryant and Gasol interact. Bryant questions Gasol's aggressiveness. Gasol laments Bryant's high-volume shooting coming at the expense of crisp ball movement. In their Game 5 loss to Oklahoma City in the Western Conference semifinals, they even argued.

But never had the two interacted this way. Bryant and Gasol posed in a photo Friday night moments before the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics wearing their unique garb. Bryant and Gasol stood side by side in outfits no one would ever see them wear at Staples Center. Bryant wore a controversial made-in-China Ralph Lauren uniform, including a navy blazer, white shirt, navy tie and a beret. Gasol wore a Bosco bright red jacket, white shirt, orange tie and a wide-brimmed hat. Together they made a Kodak moment that was later posted on Bryant's Facebook page.

"Proud of mi hermano Pau," read a message on Bryant's Facebook page. "Being the flag bearer for your country is beyond an honor. This is us at the opening ceremony as we get set for our march toward the stadium and toward a possible showdown for the GOLD."

Which Kobe Bryant Jersey Should Be Retired?

While wearing number eight Bryant won three consecutive NBA titles, and started to build himself a name in the league. The number eight was Kobe’s first number and he wore it from 1997 to 2006. During that time, Bryant obviously lived through times of great success, but he also had moments of regret and embarrassment.

Kobe went through an ugly off the court issue and there was also the break up of his duo with Shaquille O’Neal which lost him many supporters. However, wanting a new start to his career, Bryant decided to leave number eight and wear 24 instead.

Starting in 2007, Kobe Bryant has worn the number 24 on his jersey. With this number, Bryant has cemented his legacy among the league’s all-time greats and has many people convinced that he is the greatest Los Angeles Laker ever.

ANDREW BYNUM LIKELY TO WAIT TILL NEXT SEASON BEFORE SIGNING A NEW CONTRACT – NBA NEWS

After having a spectacular season, where he averaged 18 plus points and 11 plus rebounds per game, Andrew Bynum is enjoying the fruits of his labour.

In a league where conventional big men have become a scarcity, Bynum has an advantage when it comes to playing the centre position, and he has excelled in his role for the Los Angeles Lakers. At a young age of 24, the seven footer is now headed for much greater success.

Bynum is currently on the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. It was reported yesterday that Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak has initiated contract negotiations with his agent. However, it is highly unlikely that Bynum will sign an extension with the Lakers. If he signs an extension, he can get a three year deal. However, if he waits till the end of next season and becomes a free agent, he can either sign a five year max contract with the Lakers or a four year contract with any other team.

Bynum’s agent, David Lee, refused the claims that he had a list of preferred destinations while talking to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

“Lee also denied that Bynum had a list of preferred destinations, saying he and Bynum chuckled when they read reports while on vacation in Alaska last week indicating he already had made such decisions,” reported ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Los Angeles Lakers Rumors 2012: Lakers And Jodie Meeks Have A Mutual Interest For The Future

By Raymond Anderson

July 27, 2012 11:58 AM EDT

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a very busy summer thus far and the front offices are still in the works of making new moves. The Lakers have already acquired Steve Nash and Antawn Jamison, and it seems they are looking to add another name to that list.

The Lakers are looking to add guard Jodie Meeks and the two sides have been in talks as of late, according to sources.

Adding Meeks to the roster would definitely make the lives of Nash and Kobe Bryant much easier.

Nash would have another shooter to feed and Bryant would have another player he could rely on in crunch-time game situations.

It does when you have a guy averaging 28 on your team and you still demand double and triple teams from the team that represented your conference in the NBA finals. This league has a zone defense negating bigs from dominating Shaq style. The numbers are relative to the rules of the game when you play.

Oh yeah - retire them both.

But if we only officially retire one, I pick 24.

The way I see it, even if you separated his career into two halves - 8 and 24 - each would have accolades to warrant being retired. It's not like there is a shortage of numbers 0-99... just retire both.

I think it would be lame to the other retires to always see two Kobe numbers. I mean does he get two jerseys up there? Does he have a / put in? either scenario is lame. He's not the first HOFer to wear multiple numbers for the same team. Let him pick, but he has to pick. Personally sort of like Ron Artest... Kobe will always be #8 to me.

Could retire #8 as "Kobe" and #24 as "Bryant"
or one as "Bryant" and the other as "Black Mamba"

I don't think you can do both though both are worthy. I would do 8 as that was his rookie number. Adds a bit more historical perspective as well

I'm sorry, how many players in the league averaged a double double exactly last year? 9 out of 450.

Of those 9, how many scored at least 18.5 a game? 4

Of those 4, how many players did it on 14 shots or less? 2 - Andrew & Dwight.

Yeah, Andrew had a damn good season last year.

I'm with you ... both merit being retired (he scored 81 wearing no. 8, for crying out loud!).

The only difference is that I would hang 1 jersey and have the numbers be 8/24.

If there's a guy on the planet that merits this, it's Kobe Bean.
