In a blockbuster, four-team deal, the Orlando Magic have agreed to trade the All-Star center to the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN is reporting.
The Lakers will send Andrew Bynum to the 76ers, who also will get veteran guard Jason Richardson from the Magic. Denver, in turn, will receive All-Star swingman Andre Iguodala from the Philadelphia 76ers and one future first-round pick from each of the other three teams.
Orlando will receive veterans Al Harrington and Arron Afflalo from the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Vucevic from the 76ers.
The teams have scheduled a trade call with the NBA for Friday in order to make the deal official, ESPN reported. |

Quote: | Report: Howard dealt to Lakers in four-team blockbuster
August 9, 2012 · 10:53PM
The Magic appeared on the verge – again – of trading Dwight Howard amid reports Thursday night that a four-team deal that would send Howard to the Lakers and generate a lot of heat for Orlando was set to be completed.
ESPN.com reported that a trade call has been set for Friday morning to finalize the blockbuster that would feature Los Angeles getting the defensive superstar, the Philadelphia getting Andrew Bynum from the Lakers and Jason Richardson from the Magic, Denver getting Andre Igoudala from the 76ers, and Orlando getting Arron Afflalo and Al Harrington from the Nuggets, Nikola Vucevic and Maurice Harkless from the 76ers and one first-round pick from the three other participants.
If the particulars turn out to be accurate, if Bynum and Igoudala are involved in a deal but neither end up in Orlando, if the best current player the Magic get is Afflalo and the best prospect is the No. 15 pick this year, Harkless, Orlando will get buried in the court of public opinion.
Worth noting, of course, is that the specifics could be different when, and if, the deal is finalized. Also, trades have come close to happening before only to fall apart at the end. But never in the months of the Howard soap opera has a trade call been arranged, a signal that all sides had agreed in principle. |

For the second time this summer, the Lakers have stepped to the plate and knocked one out of the park.
First, it was the sign-and-trade deal bringing Steve Nash to Los Angeles in exchange for ... nobody.
Now, the Lakers have acquired Orlando's Dwight Howard, a truly elite player who at 26 is only now entering his prime, and have done so at as small a cost as could possibly be expected -- Andrew Bynum and a future first-round pick. The four-team trade, which also includes Denver and Philadelphia, will be submitted for league approval Friday morning, sources told ESPN Thursday night. And it will not include Pau Gasol.
Allow me to summarize the analysis you'll see below in two words: It's on.
If the Lakers were on the cusp of contention in the Western Conference after the Nash deal -- very competitive but still a tick below Miami and Oklahoma City -- they're now at worst in the center (no pun intended) of the conversation, and at best could lead it. Assuming he recovers well from the back surgery from which he's currently rehabbing -- and I don't think the Lakers would have pulled the trigger without doing their due diligence -- the Lakers have added a top-five player and the most dominant defensive force in the NBA to a lineup already including Nash, Gasol, and, of course, Kobe Bryant. |

Quote: | Lakers Set to Obtain Howard in Four-Team Trade
By HOWARD BECK
Published: August 10, 2012
Under the proposed four-team deal, the Lakers would acquire Howard, the N.B.A.’s top center, from Orlando while sending their own All-Star center, Andrew Bynum, to Philadelphia. The 76ers, in turn, would send Andre Iguodala to the Denver Nuggets, who would ship Aaron Afflalo to the Magic.
The parameters of the trade were confirmed Thursday night by two agents with clients who are involved in the deal. Both agents expected the deal would be completed Friday, after the required conference call with league officials.
ESPN first reported Thursday night that the trade was complete, hours after Yahoo Sports reported that a deal was imminent.
In addition to Afflalo, a promising young guard, Orlando would receive the veteran forward Al Harrington from the Nuggets, center Nikola Vucevic and forward Moe Harkless from the 76ers and three protected first-round picks — one from each team. |

This thread reflects my own state of mind throughout the day. At lunch I checked in here and saw there was a deal for Howard in the works that would involve trading not only Bynum to the Sixers but also Gasol to the Magic, and I was bummed that whole afternoon at work. Then by the time I got off work and checked in here again, I saw that Gasol was no longer leaving and I was really happy. I hope nothing more changes between now and tomorrow afternoon. _________________ I would rather have questions I cannot answer than answers I cannot question - Richard Feynman |

What a crazy back and forth deal! Life Jefffish, when I heard the trade involved Gasol leaving and us getting Harrington, I saw this as a potential bad move. The lakers would just be giving up too much defensively.
But if the deal for us is essentially Bynum and a future 1st rounder for Howard, with no taking back players or contracts we do not want, wow, what a deal for the Lakers! _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

It would be interesting how Stern reacts to this trade, once submitted to league office. |

Looks like Mitch has once again waved his magic wand. Pau's reported not to be a part of the deal.
Quote: | Pau Gasol, however, won't be a part of the deal, according to the executives, and will remain with the Lakers. |
This, like the Chris Paul deal, seems to good to be true. Can you imagine next season's starting five.
Steve Nash
Kobe Bryant
Dwight Howard
Pau Gasol
Meta World Peace.
We'll know early tomorrow morning. Stern can't stop this one.
Something that give me angst is the health of Howard and Andrew.
