Nash had better get a second opinion (from a doctor not affiliated with the team) on that fracture. The Lakers have had a poor record with misdiagnosing/mistreating injuries over the last several years.

He needs to come back healthy.

I've never heard this, who have they misdiagnosed?

Nash needs to drink some more milk. I prescribe 8-10 16 oz cups of milk a day.
glad you're not my doctor... wow
But I'd be great as your doctor. Actually, I'd be great as anyone's doctor. Hit me up on advice any time. _________________ I'm like a Hadouken, down-right Fierce!

Ever hear of a guy named Karl Malone?
Yup. Malone's misdiagnosis led to us losing the 2004 Finals. _________________ 16

curious, anyone else?
Interesting, Karl Malone seems a bit further in the past than "over the last several years."

I love how people try to play doctor, 'kobe shouldnt play, he needs to rest', 'nash needs a second opinion', 'we dont want a repeat of malone' etc....calm down...let the proffessional training staff and doctors do their jobs and we can do ours.

yep i was thinking the same thing.
we are notorious for saying something isnt that bad. then it turning out to be that bad. or the "it wont get worse by playing on it."
i dont want to see nash for another 3 weeks personally . 4 preferably. _________________ LAL4K3RS wrote: He(Kobe) is the white haired kung fu master that you realize is older than dirt but can still kick your arse when in a sitting position drinking a nice herbal tea.
Hate to say this but as a practicing physician and surgeon, it's inexcusable why Nash wasn't given imaging to figure out what was going on before any type of attempt to "rehab" his injury?
This is a professional athlete worth millions of dollars.
Contrary to popular opinion, people like Gary Vitti or Judy Seto are NOT doctors, FAR FROM IT. It's laughable to even equate the two.
Who the hell is the DOCTOR on that Lakers staff and what in the world was he thinking not getting an MRI before allowing Nash to continue to do leg curls when the pain wasn't going away?
Well to be fair since it is a non weight bearing hairline fracture, Kobe Bryant's favorite words regarding injury applies to this one apparently: "It can heal while you play."
The only criteria really preventing Nash from suiting it up is just pain and swelling. Once that subsides and he's able to resume weigh bearing activity without discomfort he can come back.
The actual FRACTURE itself can take up to 4-6 weeks to heal completely obviously but that can continue to happen as he plays. I'm guessing that's why they said 7-10 days, that's the estimate of how long it will take before the pain subsides to the point where he can effectively put weight on it and also have the lateral quickness to play.
Now with all that being said:
1. his minutes should obviously be carefully monitored and our head coach is Mike Brown . . .
2. God help us all if he gets smacked there again.

Nash. They misdiagnosed him with a contusion because they inexplicably didn't get an MRI at the time of injury. You wouldn't order an MRI for an ordinary patient presenting like that, but a star athlete where the cost isn't an issue, MRI should be automatic. Then they had him doing weighted calf raises on the broken bone. That exercise wouldn't even be indicated for a contusion, so that particular "treatment" constitutes malpractice. So misdiagnosis followed by malpractice in the span of a couple of days.
I think they've done this stuff with Bynum before, not getting timely MRIs or other imaging studies. It is especially idiotic when you consider that a fracture would at least be on your differential with Nash's injury. Any time there is bleeding in the bone you'd consider small fractures and want to rule those out.
Apparently the Lakers don't find it necessary to employ an actual physician on the sidelines, even though they'd be having the best sports med docs fighting to take a discounted salary for that gig.

Freaking Gary Vitti. He gets the benefit of the doubt cause he's been there for decades but I think it's time to get someone new.
