I've never been a big fan of the guy. I actually hate his "barry white" esq voice, and don't think it pumps up the fans at all. It's actually the perfect voice for the atmosphere at Staples; relaxed and calm.
Now, everybody thinks he's great and all, but besides him being the PA guy for 20+ years, why does everyone think he's so amazing? Just because someone does something for X years, doesn't make them good (see: stu lantz).
I'm dying to hear some real reasons _________________ Dominating every day.

Tanter's very good. The crappy "Whoo whoo" and whatever other stuff they play to try to pump up the crowd is what really annoys me. I think even Kobe made a comment about it once. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Chick hated those guys. He used to call them "screamers." "Just say the names," he used to say.
you guys are going to the extreme. i would never want a guy like that moron in detroit. he's over doing it. just someone who can ask the crowd to make some noise, or something.
and yes, ideally the team should pump up the crowd, but the whole point of a PA guy isn't to just call out names of people who score, it's to get people jacked when they are sitting on their hands. _________________ Dominating every day.

Ive always like Tanter. The thing that always bothered me for some reason is the band playing that tune for defense and the only people you can hear chanting it is the cheerleaders. Gosh talk about taking the crowd out of the game.
Nice ....thats the one finals game i attended....if our lame lower level crowd cant get hyped then the announcer doesnt matter imo _________________ RIP.....Pop (AJ Sr.) 7/09/23-01/20/09
Thanks for 35 years of love, sacrifice and joy...also for taking me to all the lakers games at the GW forum as a youngster and helping me understand the joy that comes from watching a lakers game
It's gotten so bad that LG is calling for Lawrence Tanter's head? Here's an idea, maybe the crowd will be pumped up if the Lakers stopped turning it over 25 times a game.
Don't like it? Maybe Lawerence should try the Pistons announcer style. Kobeeeeeeeeeeee B-B-B-B-Bryant!!!
Please no. I don't know if I can sit through this without thinking our team is some sort of side-show. I have to admit though, it takes creativity to introduce Ben Wallace like that. Tanter definitely has way more class.
that idea sucks. the laker crowd has always been weak, even during winning streaks
Nope. Lakers crowds are intelligent. They cheer good play and they sit on their hands if the team plays poor or with no effort. You're kidding yourself if you think changing the PA announcer is going to have any effect on the crowd if the quality of play is poor.

If the Staples crowd was made up mostly of the same rabble that fills many other NBA arenas on any given night, chances are the Lakers would hire someone to cater to their plebeian sensibilities.
