It is pretty simple. The Time Warner deal has cursed this team.

No other explanation.

Need to go back to KCAL and Prime Ticket.

Its Backstage. Remember Lamar Odom was killed by a reality show. Now so have we.

The curse started when Stern vetoed the Chris Paul trade.

I dont know if you are joking, but i seriously agree with you. Remember the Cowboys and Jets when they were on HBOs Hard Knocks?

Reality TV is not good for teams. Half the players try to hard to be somebody different for the cameras and the other half hold back. If Time Warner knows what is good for them, they would pull the plugnon the reality show. It would give the team the privacy needed to truly become a team. This would lead to a better team and better ratings for what really matters.....the actual games.

I don't put much stock in curses, but things could have gone a bit smoother since the deal was signed. I'm sure there are many others, but the following come to mind:

- Spero loses his mind, turns down the TV gig and bolts to NY. Fans stuck with BillyMac on tv/John Ireland radio
- Steve Blake distracted, steps on spike strip for no reason. Then suffers an abdominal injury, out for several months.
- TWC carriage talks initially leave Laker fans w/o no access to the team at all
- One of greatest moves in Lakers history, two Hall of Famers are signed. Howard is slow to recover. Nash gets injured.
- Team starts 0-8 in Pre-season. No harm, no foul, no one saw it on TWC.
- Team starts 1-4 in regular season. Mike Brown fired, approx $16 million for one year of work.
- With FO desperately seeking sequel to Showtime, Phil Jackson gets the door slammed in his face. Mike D'Antoni hired "in a midnight coup."
- Pau Gasol spirals deeper into a personal abyss, battles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, melacholiness
- The highly anticipated return of Steve Nash helps the team win 5 in a row, but the euphoria fizzles when the team falls to 15-18

Coincidence??? You decide.........

I don't put much stock in curses, but things could have gone a bit smoother since the deal was signed on Feb 15, 2011.

2011
- Barnes gets injured before playoffs, Blake chicken pox, Kobe limps into playoffs, Lakers swept. Phil's coaching staff released. Phil retires
- Ronnie Lester and several longtime staff are let go, bartender Chaz hired
- Mike Brown hired, Quinn Snyder hired, Ettore Messina hired
- Spero loses his mind, turns down the TV gig and bolts to NY. Fans stuck with BillyMac on tv/John Ireland radio
- Chris Paul is announced as a Laker in a blockbuster deal. David Stern steps in to rescind the deal. Basketball reasons.
- Jesse Buss on a "scouting trip" arrested in Kentucky
2012
- Lakers get bounced from playoffs in second round, Quinn Snyder/Ettore Messina choose to endure a Russian winter vs another year with Mike Brown

Well, if anything life in Lakerland has been forgettable since the deal was signed in Feb 2011.

bad decisions coupled with the anti christ intervening. no such things as curse

-poor handling of Phil staff (i.e firing them during playoffs)

-Sibling fight through media

-Mike Brown Dvds

-Phils jackson "interview/meeting"

-Hiring MDA right after the Phil meet

-Hiring MDA based on an aging PG

-cp3 male chicken block

-getting nothing in return for howard

-not trading gasol when value was higher

-giving kobe that ridiculous extension

Bad decisions, creating a bad internal culture, limiting yourself of potential moves with the amount given to mamba...

Now here we are, we suck, and I pray...i hope that the organization is, without having to admit, all in on tanking. Thats the first step into rebuilding. Blow it up. Trade who you can and lets begin

Not sure how Mitch feels about considering how potential moves hurts the TWC contract (although to be fair, the deal brings a ton of $ to the team).

But it seems the team is constrained to at worst, being a bottom playoff team (notwithstanding this year's injury ward team).

That is kind of the sad thing. This team has a ton of $$$ to spend but they can't spend it on the players like they used to.

The CBA along with a Calif Tax Code make LA a tougher place to attract top talent.
