Season was released last night. Netflix has announced that the show will return for a third season.

I've watched the first four episodes and it's still very entertaining, though your suspension of disbelief has to be total this time around, particularly regarding what happens in the very first episode of the season.

This time they're dealing with entitlement spending and other stuff regarding Claire. It's good, but I'm not sure I can take more than 3 seasons of this, if the dynamics of the show stay the same.

Watched the first four episodes. OF COURSE you have to have some degree of suspension of disbelief. You had to do the same for, say, West Wing (although for different reasons) or Breaking Bad. It's a drama built around a real-life setting, not a documentary of a real life setting.

I liked it but not as much as season 1. Part of that had to do with what happens in episode 1. I thought it was a story line that had a lot of potential and they ended it pretty quickly.

I liked this season but not as much as the first. [SPOILER REMOVED] Also the main storyline kinda lost me this season, I'm sure I'm not the only one. [SPOILER REMOVED], that first episode moment was hard to swallow.

[EDIT: WAY TOO CLOSE TO A SPOILER HERE.]

I binge watched as well and finished late last night. Wow, great season.
It will be interesting to see where it goes from here esp. with the next season being the last.

So did they confirm there would be a season 3? I hope so.

There was word that Spacey wanted to get back to making movies and S3 wasn't confirmed yet.

Now!

SPOILERS:

I finished it and it was very engaging, even though it was pretty clear from the beginning what was going to happen. No matter what the confrontation, no matter what the crisis, the Underwoods always come ahead. It helps that all their enemies are morons. The show is so predictable, so deliberate in its approach, I really hope the 3rd season will be the last season.

Anyway, Frank is president now. I have a feeling Rachael will play a role in his downfall somehow. However, Jackie seems to be best positioned to bring down the Underwoods. She's ruthless and smart enough. Everybody else is either too stupid, or too nice, or too parasitic. Secretary of State Durant sure knew how to change sides as soon as she saw what Frank was doing.

Even though this is a show and we shouldn't take it too seriously, what bothered me about the last few episodes is how incredibly low Walker's approval ratings were. There is no way a president's approval ratings would ever sink to the single digits (Congress is different because people vote for their congressman but don't vote for Congress as a whole, so it's a different dynamic, hence why we've seen single digits approval ratings for Congress recently). There are just too many ideologues that would support "their" president no matter what. Presidents have faced much more serious scandals in the recent past and it never went that low. The writers could have kept it in the mid 20s and they would have made the same point, which was that Walker's popularity was plummeting.

Creepiest scene: Threesome between Frank, Claire, and Secret Service guy.

Best scene: Lesbian sex.

Funniest scene: Freddy shouting PAROLE when his son took out his gun.

The threesome scene was just weird. What was the point? It added nothing to the story.

I think it was partly meant to illustrate how fake his public image is. We knew he was weird, but the threesome just reinforces it. While he promotes himself as a conservative southern Democrat with family values with a long career in Congress, his personal life is about having fun and his political maneuvering behind the scenes is all about manipulating others. He smokes weed, he and his wife both engage in extramarital affairs, he's bisexual, he kills people. His constituency has a completely wrong picture of him, but he succeeds because he's a ruthless pragmatist, as he has said a number of times. His marriage with Claire is just an instrument to attain power.

Love the show. My only complaint is that, like Wilt said, you knew exactly how everything was going to end very early on. The show is incredibly predictable in terms of where the story goes. Still a great watch and I can't wait til season 3.

The biggest thing that pissed me off this season though was the whole Zoe thing being considered a suicide. There's no way the footage leading up to her flying in front of the train would lead anyone to believe it was a suicide.

You have to wonder, was his plan all along to become President? When he was going to be Secretary of State, did he plan on usurping the President even then? Or was this something he hatched when he was passed over?

Did he originally plan to go from Congressman > Secretary of State > Vice President > President ?

Frank smokes weed?

I thought the most interesting subplot was with Doug. He looks dead but maybe he's not?

I agree with most people on here that the show is predictable. I'm still mad they killed Zoey so soon and featured Lucius. The least interesting of the three.

And if they kill off Doug, I'll be mad. I'll be left only with Remy as enjoyable secondary characters. It's interesting how they'll take the show forward. I want to believe the Rachel submit takes him down but she also stands to lose by her assault and potential murder of Doug (Assuming he's dead) and grand theft auto. I just can't see that being the way he goes down although I do think he does.

I'm half way through S:2 and have one question.

SPOILER ALERT QUESTION

Why didn't Lucas simply feed all his info to Right wing conservative news organization or something like the Drudge Report, instead of jumping to cyber hacking conclusion? Seems like that would have been the safest way to get the info out there, to get other people asking questions.

It just adds to what we learned on the batting practices of Mr. Underwood. It also shows how the Underwoods USE people on multiple levels

Their relationship is built on the LOVE of power and nothing more.

Yeah, I don't recall Frank ever smoking weed - only the cigarettes he smokes in private with his wife.

House of Cards is really good, though I wouldn't call it great or anything like that. Many lull points in both seasons IMO... fell asleep during a few episodes.
