That explains why it looked like Phil was mailing it in that season. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I'd like to see him become a part of managment. Our FO is in shambles. Not knowing but feeling, Jim needs a strong presence to nudge him in the right direction. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

The problem with that is that we have no idea if Phil can nudge anyone in the right direction. At least Jim has proven that the FO can make solid player personnel moves under his watch. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

You call Nash a solid player personnel move? Adding age to a already aged roster IMO was not a solid player personnel move.
IMO Damtomi was not the coach for the personnel we have, another bad move.
I'm on the outside looking in, as are you. I believe Phil and Mitch can put their heads together and forge, with Jim, better moves. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Eleven championships doesn't convince you that Phil can nudge people in the right direction? |

This. Based on the players Phil has advocated trading for or drafting, he's not exactly a proven commodity in the front office. |

Nash as a player is definitely a good move, but we gave up a bit much for him and his contract is 1 year too long. Nash would be perfect in the triangle, it's when you start asking him to be the old Suns Nash you run into problems, especially considering we don't have the players to run that offense.
The move would have payed off if we hired Phil instead of D'Antoni. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts! |

Nah, D'antoni was the logical choice.
He built his reputation on slowing the pace down. On top of that, if you ask Phoenix Suns fans, they will all tell you that he did a fantastic job moderating his starters minutes. |

My dislike of signing Nash was and is his age and contract. Pau and Kobe have huge contracts and it's going to cost the organization when the LT kicks in. Again, IMO, adding age to a aging roster was not a good decision. Reason I say not a solid player move.
You've addressed my other concern, Damtoni. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

You're right, and his Suns teams suffered greatly from injuries as a result... oh wait...
BTW, he tended to give 9 guys significant minutes in PHO. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

Phils is horrible coach, he couldnt do any better with this group...lol
So many people (including some in the Lakers FO) have no idea that greatness Phil has for leading a group of men to ultimate heights. The fact that this guy would coach our team if simply asked and shown some yet we go without him is a joke. Get this guy back on our sidelines, turn the triangle into a Laker brand and let his future understudies take over in the future.
BTW, you can still run and use the triangle when half court ball is needed...they are not mutually exclusive. _________________ Back to Back Yeah, Yeah...and you know that!

Jimbo is. He will just hire himself and use a cap expert or put a puppet in there like the current assistant GM. |

His understudies have had great success...as his understudies. As head coaches? None whatsoever.
And again, Phil is done with coaching. He was done when he called it a career 2 years ago and has done absolutely nothing to indicate that he has changed his mind. Hell, he doesn't want to deal with the rigors of being an executive either, which is why he's looking for a consulting gig. |

Most people never get that the triangle had very little to do with Phil's success. He could have done the same thing with a completely different scheme. Which is why teaching it to understudies, and then watching them fail in head coaching jobs is such a waste of time.
What made Phil great is about who and what Phil is as a person and a force of nature. Like jack Nicholson, Phil just has "it", and "it' can't be taught, no matter how many of his books you read or how many years you work with him.
Phil doesn't even know what makes Phil great, which is why he spends so much time searching (although, ironically, being a searcher is part of what you can define that makes him great). _________________ “We must always take sides. Phil wanted to trade Kobe for Jason Kidd back in '01 or so. He pushed for Luke getting his fat $30 million contract when no one would offer anything close to that. I can't recall what else, but there's a long track record of Phil wanting players that wouldn't have panned out. |
