Mike, I've been seeing Bennett get some flack for his intangibles (character, lack of toughness). Do you know what that's about?
Haven't read anything about it. He's a physical player in the paint, but even if he floats out, I can't imagine it being worse than Millsap or Aldridge. But, he's so aggressive going to the basket that I would be surprised at any real lack of toughness. Kid is just 19. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I follow UNLV basketball religiously. Bennett and skills are the real deal. He had injury issues in high school. Back and leg injuries. He barely played his senior year. AB does some low character things on the court when he gets frustrated. Throwing elbows and having poor body language. He ignored Dave Rice when he would walk to the bench several times. Good guy towards his teammates though. Well on defense he's SOFT. Shows not effort or desire to play defense at all at this stage. Supposedly has asthma.
I haven't seen too much of Bennett in live action, but from watching his highlight reels I see a lot of Carmelo Anthony in him. If he can lose some weight I could see him becoming a very solid SF. I thought Paul Milsapp too when I saw his measurements, but I don't think he plays like him. He is way more athletic than Milsapp. He uses his body very well in the paint and handles the ball well, able to lead a fast break making nice passes off the dribble. He also has 3pt range, where Milsapp isn't particularly strong.

Usually in that case, it's enough to drop a guy out of top 5, even with the talent. Veterans step in for the body language, asthma takes time. JaVale McGee is still coping with it, but is still a very effective player at 25mpg. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
Can't recall seeing this kid play but I've heard many comparisons to the BEAST we new as GRANDMAMA aka Larry Johnson(LJ).
Now when LJ came onto the scene I was excited for the league, I felt that he was going to be the NEXT GREAT PLAYER after Mr. MJ had redefined basketball.
But LJ was POWER, FINESS, ATHLETICISM, SKILLS & ABILITY all rolled up into one...
Does Bennett have that potential? Like I said I've never seen him play but I've seen highlights and I don't really count those anyway.
It's crazy how an undersized player can be so physically dominant in college and then when he goes to the NBA those physical attributes are tested night in and night out and could very well be your down-fall...LJ = going to soon...
Someone enlighten me on Bennett if he's the second coming of LJ I'd like to see that dominance back in the NBA...
Ala SHAQ, SIR CHARLES, KARL MALONE, LARRY JOHNSON etc.
Love Bennett . Supreme athlete, plus the skill to work around the mid range area for sure. If he can hit the 3 in the NBA. I'll do,pare his effectiveness to a poor mans Kevin Love. I can see this kid avg 18 and 11 in a couple years

That's like saying Kevin Love is a SF.
Bennett plays in the paint. He just has exceptional guard skills for his age. That's a huge positive, not the other way around. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
The word is Bennett is due for a slide, and it must because of his him personally, because it's not like a lot of the teams in the top 5 couldn't use a player like him.

Let him slide. He may think he's a SF, he's not. Face up PF with post moves? Sure. He'd kill at the high post. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Well, for all we know he could be just saying that to increase his marketability, although I think he's wrong in assuming why teams are down on him. He did shy away from saying he could defend 3's in his media day interview, which is encouraging.
I think he's falling because of character concerns though, and that's really what I question about him the most, everything else is nice. The only PF that really compares to him size-wise in the NBA is Paul Millsap, which isn't a bad mid range-projection for him, but he's more athletic and skilled than him.

If character wasn't an issue, he could go #1. Unlike Len, Oladipo, McLemore, Noel, etc., not only is he a skilled, stellar athlete, but he can create his own shot. Low block. High block. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Not a good pick for CLE I think, having Thompson. Bennett is too big to play SF. He reminds me of a Dejuan Blair type of player.
Totally disagree.
I'm not concerned about his offensive skill. I know it's a preseason game, but this is a clear example of shooting touch and Iso play.
The concern? He's overweight and out of shape. He gets distracted by length on his jumpshot.
If he's treated like a project, gets his body into shape for the next year or two, and doesn't bounce off of defenders so bad, watch out. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
