I am hoping Chicago will show interest in Pau. Maybe they can work out something in a S&T. Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson for Gasol |

Since our postseason has officially started, we may as well start thinking about what kind of team we can build with our limitations. If the goal is to make a run at Love in 2015, then this is the situation:
Love's max 1st year in 2015 would be about 17.5mil, and let's estimate the cap to be 63mil. That means we can have ~ 45mil at most on the books to sign Love in 2015. Kobe and the 2014 pick take up 28mil. Factoring in the cap holds and whatnot that would arise, we can probably sign about 14mil in deals that will extend beyond 1 year.
So, it looks like this for us this summer, assuming we don't stretch Nash:
Kobe 23.5mil
Nash 9.7mil
Sacre 900k
2014 pick ~3mil
Cap holds ~4mil
Total ~ 41mil
Projected cap: 62.9mil
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Total to spend on multi-year deals: 14mil
Total to spend on 1-year deals: ~8mil
So what kind of team would you build with 14mil to spend long-term, and 8mil to spend on 1yr deals, BEFORE we get to the minimum fillers? |

That's nothing, those are two role players. Plus, it's almost a given that Pau would put in 1000% more effort for any coach not named MDA. Rose to Gasol pick n' roll, with Noah anchoring the D would make them instant contenders. Butler and Gibson aren't putting them over the hump any time soon. |

I think Ariza can provide a lot of value in a cap-friendly contract. If I'm not mistaken, you could still have room for $10-12 million guy as well.
I think bringing back Ariza would be a great move to appease Kobe and more importantly improve this team. We would finally have some perimeter defense again. _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club

I loved Trevor Ariza when he was here. But I do have some concerns with the fact that his two best seasons (by far) in his career were both during contract years. He shot career highs both from the field and three point range in those two seasons and after he got his last big contract he tapered off badly until the last two seasons. I am concerned if they gave him long term deal that history would repeat itself. |

2 Years/3mil per was what I had in mind. I don't think they do a 3 year deal unless the third year is a team option. _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club

Another guy I'm interested in is Shaun Livingston. He's doing a great job in Brooklyn _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club

Well if you think about it, Pau is a lousy defender, but put next to a beast like Noah he would flourish. I think that's what the poster is getting at, and that's why the Bulls might give it a thought. But, i doubt they do that. Both Jimmy and Taj are young players, unless the Bulls are in a "win now" mode, they don't do that.. _________________ New Beginings |

The only deal with Chicago is a trade for Boozer. This would make sense if...
1. Lakers can get one or both 1st round picks from the Bulls in exchange for cap space
2. Pau is gone
3. Boozer's 1 yr deal is a place holder _________________ #11/08/16 America became GREAT again

I agree, I would be happy with Gibson and a 2nd round pick. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Short term that would be fine, but he is approaching 30. I would prefer guys who are a bit younger, but typically you would have to overpay for them. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

What's your point? Pau would want a multi-year deal. Boozer keeps cap flexibility and could get the Lakers a (or two) 1st round picks. _________________ #11/08/16 America became GREAT again

I love Pau just as much as no one does here. But, he needs to go elsewhere. It's been the same story for 4 years now. its over. |

If he is going to leave then wouldn't he have a better chance in Houston with Howard and Harden, than with Kobe and a lotto pick? Or in Phoenix with their youngsters and lotto pick? |

He's lived in Clev.
He's lived in Miami.
Does he want to live in Houston or LA? Hmm... _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
