Is that possible to frontload Pau? Are there restrictions in the CBA?
I know you can frontload but I don't think you can have declining salaries.
Maybe a 2 yr $20M deal with $15M next year and $5M after. |
Just like he could get 7.5% raises from the Lakers, they can write the contract where he gets 7.5% reduction annually. |
7.5% reductions won't do much if you are starting at $10M per based on the sample above. You need more like 20-25% reductions. |
You could also just do a flat $8 mil per and should be ok. Kobe plus our first rounder will only be $30 mil next summer, plus another $5 mil or so in cap holds. Add Pau at $8 mil and we should still have about $20 mil for Love. The next summer Kobe's salary comes off and you can use that money for Durant.
I think Pau at $8 mil is a good deal for the next three years. He will continue to be one of the best low post scorers in the league for the next couple years. We just need better defenders around him and a coach that values D. _________________ “This goes far beyond paychecks” |

I actually think Pau is the problem. He provides no interior defense, shot blocking and his defensive rebounding is regressing. I'd pass on a further declining Pau _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club

I completely agree. I don't think it has anything to do with Mike D'Antoni either. Pau Gasol doesn't really give effort on the defensive end. I liken his defense to those inflatable dolls with the flailing arms that are usually at car dealerships. |

If the Lakers bring Pau back, it is a sign they have given up on contending anytime in the near future.
The guy plays no defense at all, none. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Maybe next time we should give the player a reason to stay. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts! |

So we should stop expecting championships, and surround him with young guys who like to have fun? _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

It's the new era where we lose the star players we have and when we have cap space they don't wanna come here. |

The free agency period hasn't even begun for them to use their cap space and you're already declaring star players don't want to come here? |

Okay. Got it. Just making sure we were on the same page.
I'll wait until after the draft / free agency period to proclaim that nobody wants to play for the Lakers. |

Easier to bet the field in a hear in which there may be no great targets. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

Actually in regards to Pau I think that makes sense for the Lakers to see if they can find a deal where they are able to flip Pau to get youth/pick it would likely be late a late round pick and talent level that would likely only help fill out the bench, but a good team needs that balance. For it me it seems like the key is putting together a solid roster, a competitive roster where adding two marquee players will put them from competitive to championship contender, because I don't think it's as likely they Lakers get those marquee players in the draft as scoring them in FA and if we have a young talented roster, along with us being the lakers, with being in LA, a solid coaching choice, and cap space you are creating an environment where a stud FA will say hey yeah I could walk into that situation and really go far with that team |

Yeah, so lets find that awesome defensive/offensive big that wants to play here, that we can afford, and that is available. Hmmm, who would that be? Sacre? _________________ Ahhhh, those were the days...time for a new beginning! |

I still believe if lakers go back to a half court game and move pau back to pf and get a defensive center they could be a top team in the west. With there draft pick . |

but who else is out there as a free agent that would be better than Pau? Ofcourse I'm going on the assumption Pau would take a significant paycut to stay here. |

maybe someone like Gortat?
Can we get Gortat and Deng or we'd be over the cap?
Gortat/Sacre
Pau/Kelly
Deng/Young
Kobe/Meeks
Exum/Nash/Farmar
That team is pipe but I still don't think it's good enough to be a top playoff contender, maybe a 5 seed. |

hes expiring since we are not gonna be a contender next year no problem for us to carry his salary for a year for a return of lamb and a first rounder. |

That's hilarious. You really got me there. Sick burn.
Off the bench, Robert Sacre is great for what he is and what he's paid. He's serviceable.
Never once in any other thread did I suggest Robert Sacre should be the starter. |
