I like it too. Cable/Premium channels really have the best shows.

Yes, add one more to the great list of premium channel shows: GoT, Newsroom, Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, Hunted, Banshee.

As with many of these fine shows, the line between good and evil is always in flux with the protagonist. Acting as a fixer for the very elite clientele in the various SoCal entertainment industries, coupled with the normal tensions of home life, Mr. Donovan is the cool, calm and collected dude, trying to do the right thing for his family while having the constant burden of putting out all the fires of the fast lane.

Then there is his dad . . .

I hear ya, 999. I rarely watch TV unless it's basketball or football, but I was home sick from work one day this past week, and watched the first four episodes of this show. Love it. Liev Schreiber, is, per usual, excellent.

Agree with you guys. Great show. Some of it seems loosely based on Anthony Pellicano.

Perfect character for him too. Brooding, morally conflicted/ambivalent/jaded. He plays dangerous subsumed in decent really really well, and that's not easy.

Excellent show.

Yeah, they seem to be vibing some of Pellicano's exploits. The tranny thing involving the H-wood actor is based on a famous well-known African-American comedian's alleged exploits from several years ago. Think Beverly Hills.

The acting is very good. Eddie Marsan seems to be based on Freddie Roach. Marsan is a fantastic actor. British, but you couldn't tell from the accent. Why do the Brits churn out all these fantastic actors? Liev's southie wife on the show is an actress from Ireland.

Jon Voight always plays baddies very well, but he seems particularly gelatinous here.

And Liev is a surprise. In the stuff I've seen him in previously, I didn't think he had bad-a$$ in him, but he underplays beautifully and carries it off. I also like Steven bauer -- from the old Scarface movie -- playing Liev's right-hand-man. Leiv's other operative -- the thin brunette with the shag hairdo and slender frame, is also very good..

The writing -- the observed behavior of the various characters -- is spot on and superb. The selection and use of locations is top-notch.

One of the few shows I look forward to watching.

Agreed. He has dimensions inside dimensions.

IMO, the best writing and acting these days is on cable TV -- they're actually telling human stories. Much more compelling that blockbuster movies.

Is this show better than Dexter(I'm expecting a resounding yes)? It looks good.

Who is Ray Donovan?

When his boss somewhat dismissively asks, maybe I should fire you, Donovan replies,

"I'm not the kind of guy you fire."

Snowflakes in some trouble. The recording studio probably saw her leaving with Marvin, and Suge will find out about it.

Just started watching it. Great show, great acting. These cable shows are very high quality. I just can't watch the regular sitcoms anymore.

this season really sucks.....I did not care for Abby's character when she was alive, and I like her character even less now. I could go for some more Lili Simmons.
