http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/health/nba-star-kobe-bryant-to-visit-uae-to-raise-diabetes-awareness

Quote:
The basketball superstar Kobe Bryant will be in the UAE later this year to help raise awareness of diabetes.

The NBA star will be in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in September.

Bryant, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, has expressed his excitement on his Facebook page.

I remember at one time, a fan of his from UAE put a full page of ads thanking Kobe for all the excitements Kobe has brought to basketball.

Is Kobe returning the favor? His global reach is now not limited to asia and europe any more...

great to see mamba help promote the awareness in other culture.

just don"t jump from 100 feet above the pool ..

Dubai is starting to have a lot of weight problems. They are offering gold to obese citizens who lose weight. I guess they are also hiring Kobe.

The question is why Kobe?

There are many other great athletes from other sports that can easily be picked and asked to do the thing.

Soccer is more popular than any other sports in that part of the world. So, Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar or any great soccer player could have been picked.

No, they chose an NBA star. But why not Lebron, the current champ?

What did they see in Kobe that triggered them to choose him for the cause?

LeBron is mostly hot (bleep) in the US, not as much abroad.

Kobe is (bleep) insanely popular overseas.

I was about to post about this too. I read that the policy has had limited effectiveness because the country is so rich.

Yea, I think they give you gold every month just for being a citizen there. Or cash.

I think Kobe having grown up overseas really appeals to fans outside the US. Let's be honest, alot of countries hate our guts and Lebron James is a perfect representation of why people hate us. Bigger faster, stronger.

Because outside of the US where lebron is forced down your throat by the media, in the rest of the world Kobe Bryant is considered, still, the greatest player in the game. There's a reason chinese people cry when they see him walk.

That's ignorant.
