|
|
hi All,
The other day, I saw "This is the End", the apocalyptic zombie attack movie, set in LA, and somewhere there's this dialogue:
Quote: | For all we know, the f****** Lakers could have just won and that’s the reason all this is happening.. |
It got me thinking though: are there "Lakers" references in other movies?

One of my favorite ones I just happened upon a few years ago was in a 1974 movie called California Split. I don't remember the exact lines or anything, but Elliott Gould and George Segal are kind of shooting around on a playground court and Elliott's making references to things like West dishing to Goodrich or whatever. It was pretty sweet.

There was a stinker called Eye For An Eye with Keifer and Sally Fields. Keifer played a rapist/child murderer and he stalked a victim for a substantial portion of the film wearing a Lakers cap. Positive association. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

That one wedding movie w/ Steve Martin. Talked about his Forum seats.
I think Murtaugh mentioned tix for a Laker gm in one of the Lethal Weapons. Then he actually went as Danny Glover and was interviewed by Stu at halftime. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

That movie had several. But then, that's to be expected when your two main characters are impulsive gamblers who bet on any and every possible thing. Two others that come to mind:
When they're at the bar, Charlie (Gould) is asking other patrons who their favorites are for the '73 finals. He picks the Celtics over the Knicks, his rationale being "Willis is hurting. Knicks ain't winning nothing." Of course, in real life, we know that the Knicks would go on to win the championship over LA, 4 games to 1.
In another scene, Bill (Segal) and Charlie are making wagers on a Suns/Lakers game. Charlie takes the Lakers, to Bill's disbelief. When he asks why, Charlie says losing two in a row isn't a big deal. Bill quickly corrects him, however, saying that they have actually dropped four straight and the Suns are riding a five-game streak.
---
"Be Cool", the vastly inferior sequel to "Get Shorty", actually has a key scene at Staples where Chili and Edie are trying to convince Steven Tyler to perform with a struggling singer. As they talk, Kobe himself can be seen leaning at the scorer's table during a timeout.
---
"BASEketball", from the creators of South Park, briefly mentions the Lakers in passing, with the common criticism that preserving the Laker name doesn't actually make any sense:
"Soon it was commonplace for entire teams to change cities in search of greater profits. The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles where there are no lakes. The Oilers moved to Tennessee where there is no oil. The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City where they don't allow music. The Raiders moved from Oakland to LA back to Oakland. No-one in LA seemed to notice." _________________ Lakers. Galaxy. Spurs.

Years ago, there was an action movie that had a scene where the villain and his gun-toting friends walked into a lobby of a skyscraper and approached the night guard with this dialogue (sketchy recollection):
Villain: And Magic brings the ball upcourt goes to Kareem to Worthy back to Magic...
Guard looks up.
[Villain swiftly pulls out a gun.]
Villain: ...he shoots! [villain pulls the trigger, kills the guard]

Entourage as well has a scene where Ai Gold takes Vince and his friends to the Laker game (during 04-05 season) and you can see Lamar, Chris Mihm, Kobe and one of our crappy PGs (either Tierre Brown or Chucky Atkins) _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

Black Knight.
Where Martin Lawrence's character says:
"We're team mates! Like Shaq and Kobe!"
Sighs quietly. |

Left my homie's house paid.
Picked up a girl been tryin’ to date since the 12th grade.
It’s ironic, I had the brew, she had the chronic.
The Lakers beat the SuperSonics.

What happened to the SuperSonics? |

LOL that was funny. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold & contain life, but the quality of life doesn't change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it." |
