We're only 3 losses back, I'm hoping we can make up that ground still. We're only half way through the season.
It's a little annoying having the second best record in all of baseball and having to settle for a 1 game Wild Card |

(bleep) Oakland. They need to (bleep) lose. _________________ ...in my opinion. |

And so far, it looks like we have won the Grill for Frying Pan trade.
Grill has been solid for us while Frying Pan got lit up for 5 runs while only getting 1 out the other day and gave up a walk off homer last night. _________________ ...in my opinion. |

Seriously. It's really frustrating that the Angels are so hot right now, yet barely making up any ground. With the A's upgrading their starting staff even further, they'll be tough to catch. Especially if we keep getting beaten up in our series against them. It's crazy to think that we could conceivably finish with the second best record in baseball and lose in a one game wildcard elimination.
I wonder if the Angels try to make any more moves. Huston Street is a name getting thrown around. I was thinking maybe even another SP, but then I heard that we're 4th in the AL in starters' ERA. With Pujols, Freese, and other guys who had been struggling picking it up lately, it looks like reliable relief pitching is the last piece of the puzzle. _________________ Jeffs

It wouldn't hurt to pick up another starter. Skaggs could burn out, Weaver is an injury risk, and CJ has really been crapping the bed lately. |

Getting the bullpen situation sorted out has been my biggest concern and the only impediment (my opinion) to being a team that can go the distance. Establishing those roles and gaining confidence in the ability to get the last 6 to 9 outs makes us a legit contender. And to that end, I see progress over the last several weeks.
That said, given the real possibility that we will be entering the playoffs as one of the WCs I've started to question whether we have the lights out stud to win that game. I'm also looking at possible opponents and am uneasy about facing Seattle (King Felix) - although that will partly depend on the end of season rotation if they are still chasing the spot.
I know that Weaver would be given the ball in that situation (and that likely doesn't change no matter who we add to the staff), so it might have more to do with hoping to avoid an opposing stud. Of course, with Weaver pitching that would virtually guarantee a putrid offensive showing by our guys
So turning to the rotation, it depends on whether CJ continues to struggle after the break. I think Weaver, Richards and Shoemaker are consistently "on" more often than not and I'm willing to give Skaggs a few more outings to regain consistency. Plus, in the playoffs you really only use 4 starters although I think we'd be hard pressed not to make CJ one of those 4 unless he's just horrible the rest of the way. |

Quote: | The Angels placed struggling left-handed pitcher C.J. Wilson on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained right ankle before Thursday night’s game against the Texas Rangers.
Wilson underwent an MRI test and was diagnosed with a "moderate" sprain that will sideline him for two to four weeks, General Manager Jerry Dipoto said. The Angels are hopeful that Wilson will miss only one or two starts.
Wilson suffered the injury while attempting to field a ground ball in Wednesday’s 8-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Anaheim.
Wilson (8-6) has given up 19 earned runs and 31 hits, including five home runs, in 16 2/3 innings during his last four starts, his earned-run average shooting from 3.34 to 4.33, and he failed to pitch into the fifth inning in two of those games.
Though Wilson's recent struggles are not related to his ankle injury, Manager Mike Scioscia said the pitcher, who reported to the team's spring-training complex in Tempe, Ariz., to rehabilitate the ankle, could benefit from a little time off.
"C.J. has been kind of banging his head against the wall trying to get back to where he knows he can be," Scioscia said. "Maybe just by exhaling a little bit and getting a little different perspective, he can get to that result a little quicker, and he will. He's too good of a pitcher to not find it." |

Not upset to see CJ get a few weeks off. Maybe that can get him out of his slump.
The offense is just rolling right now. Best in the majors when everyone is healthy, IMO. _________________ Jeffs

And a loss by Oakland puts us 2.5 back, only 2 losses back.
Richards with another great outing.
Let's do this! |
