Talk about not wasting any time!

Before the 2014 season even begins, this thread will have more posts and views than the Angels thread will have the entire year.

The biggest question mark for me is how long will it take Puig to mature and evolve? Lots of red flags were raised during this NLCS and we're lucky it didn't affect the outcome of the series.

That and one of Kemp/Ethier has to be gone next year.

Puig will be a 30/90 or so guy next year. He'll be fine.

Uribe's contract is done. Do we re-sign Uribe? Or try to sign a new 3B?

Well, we're certainly not having Michael Young play 3B.

Sign Cuban second baseman Alexander Guerrero.
Sign Japanese starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.
Send Kemp to Germany to get the Kobe treatment.
Buy the Tampa Bay Rays and trade David Price to the Dodgers for a PTBNL.

I think we re-sign Uribe to a 2-year contract. He's got serious chemistry with our major players and he played the best defense at 3B in the majors this year.

Sign Alexander Guerrero to a contract. Resign Kershaw hopefully (Worried he might bolt for a team that scores more runs.) Add some much need bull pen help. Fire McQwire and hire a real hitting coach.

Priority number one....Kershaw! Bullpen! Trade Ethier! Sign another bat to bolster the lineup.

I wonder what Billingsly will look like after the surgery.
Also, was Wilson signed for only this season? We need to keep him.

Source: Don Mattingly returning

ST. LOUIS -- The Los Angeles Dodgers did not announce the fate of manager Don Mattingly following Friday's season-ending, 9-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, but a club source affirmed that Mattingly will be back for at least one more season.

Dodgers president Stan Kasten and general manager Ned Colletti said they will meet with Mattingly in the next few days to try to iron something out.

The Dodgers have a 2014 option on Mattingly's contract that would need to be picked up at some point in November, but it's believed they've also talked to his agent about a multiyear extension.

To be fair, the Angels are going to be doomed for the better part of the next decade.

people can say Don Mattingly didn't make hitters forgot how to hit and your Ace choking on the mound. but bottomline is, i don't think players on this team have any confidence in Mattingly. big reason why was the moves he made were often backfires in the Cardinals series ie:

not retaliate for the Hanley beaning
pull AGon in 7th inning in favor of a speedy runner on base in a TIED game
not walking the hottest Cardinal hitter in the crucial situation

meanwhile, Dodger players looked at Mike Matheney and the guy pressed ALL the right buttons. we need a seasoned manager next year, my vote goes to Dusty Baker. not only he has a winning track record whereever he managed, but he'll also put Puig under his wing and protect him against MLB's agenda to punish flashy minority players.

This article was published on 10/15.

Bad news for Cano: Dodgers still in hunt for top Cuban 2B Guerrero

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers are again one of a few teams in the thick of the Alex Guerrero talks, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Guerrero, the power-hitting Cuban infielder who has been compared to Dan Uggla (the good Uggla, before his slump), reportedly was close to a deal several weeks ago with the Dodgers, but that one fell apart after it was realized that Guerrero's first representatives were not certified agents.

The Dodgers were suggested in some reports to be unlikely to get back into the derby after their first deal fell through. But it appears they are back in now.

That first potential seal was reported by MLB.com to have been for $32 million over five years. Now, Guerrero, 26, is said to be seeking a deal for four years maximum, so he can become a free agent at age 30.

The Dodgers have thrived in the international market, scoring majors coups with their deals for Yasiel Puig and Hyun-Jin Ryu, two keys to the team's success this year.

Should the Dodgers sign Guerrero, they'd be even less apt to go for top free agent Robinson Cano, also a second baseman. Dodgers part-owner Magic Johnson has suggested Cano isn't too likely, as things stand, provided they are able to sign star pitcher Clayton Kershaw.

Several of the teams trying to sign him have been looking to do deals even longer than five years. The team that's willing to do four years or fewer at his price is the one who'll likely get him.

You can add "starting Ethier" to the list. Ethier was a major defensive liablity in the outfield, that "double" in Game 4 was a fly ball out that just about every major league center fielder would have caught. Healthy Ethier would have caught it too, but he is painfully slow in the outfield and out on the base paths. He also looked uncomfortable at the plate. Mattingly would have to be blind to have not noticed during practice, let alone games.

Starting a guy with a bad leg in center field was atrocious. It obviously came back to burn us also and cost us Game 1 of the series and all the momentum we had coming in after Atlanta was lost.

Mattingly seems like a good person, but as a manager his moves are baffling. To me, he is Del Harris....you can spend $200 million, $300 million, $1 billion on the roster and you aren't going to win with him calling the shots.

Just go out and get a proven manager like Dusty Baker and let's be done with it already.
